Biography and career path

Gino Percontino is one of those talented perfumers whose journey into the world of fragrances began with science. He studied biology at St. Peter's University in New Jersey, and it was this academic education that laid a solid foundation for his future career as a "nose." He began his professional career at the renowned Robertet, and then spent a decade honing his skills at Fragrance Resources. After a brief stint at Drom, his career reached new heights in 2015 when he joined the New York branch of the world-renowned perfume company Mane, where he creates his iconic compositions today.

Creative signature and style

Gino Percontino's style can be described as modern, multifaceted, and emotionally rich. He masterfully combines seemingly opposite accords to create fragrances with volume and depth. A striking example is his iconic work, Mary Kay - Illuminea. The perfumer faced a difficult task: to embody in a scent the image of "warm light, whose rays spread in different directions." Percontino brilliantly accomplished this by weaving together spicy, floral, and woody notes, which became his signature technique—creating radiant, complex, and highly wearable compositions.

Best fragrances and collaborations

Gino Percontino's portfolio is impressive in its diversity and includes both mass-market hits and niche gems. He has created many popular fragrances for the youth brand Hollister, such as the fresh Hollister - Canyon Rush for Her and the invigorating Hollister - Free Wave for Him. For Banana Republic, he created the exquisite Tobacco & Tonka Bean and the austere 06 Black Platinum.

In the world of niche perfumery, his talent was revealed in collaboration with the Zaharoff brand, for which he created the luxurious and mysterious Of the Immortals. Brands such as Graff (with the fragrance Lesedi La Rona VI), Anna Sui (Fantasia Gold Edition), as well as contemporary niche projects Phlur (Sandara 2022, Añoranza) and Anthropologie have not been left out.

Recognition and influence

Working on Illuminea for Mary Kay was a milestone for Percontino—he created the brand's first premium fragrance, paving the way for it into the world of high perfumery. This fact speaks volumes about the trust that major houses place in his craftsmanship. His fragrances regularly top the charts and receive rave reviews from connoisseurs for their versatility, quality, and emotional appeal.

Gino Percontino is a shining example of a modern perfumer who successfully blurs the lines between different market segments. From affordable but incredibly popular fragrances for young people to exquisite niche creations, his signature style is recognizable, and his contribution to the industry continues to grow with each new successful composition.
