History and Concept

Elizabeth and James is a legendary niche brand founded in the United States in 2013, born from the creative vision of twin sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen.

Nirvana Black, launched in the same year, 2013, became one of the brand's first creations.

It was created by renowned perfumer Pierre Negrin, who captured the brand's DNA in this fragrance: minimalism, style, and androgyny.

Character and Sillage

Nirvana Black is a woody unisex fragrance that defies convention.

Despite its barely perceptible sillage, it feels intimate and deep, unfolding on the skin with soft, enveloping facets.

It is a refined choice for those who appreciate a personal rather than a loud presence.

Who It Is For and How to Wear It

Warm and sensual, Nirvana Black is ideal for cooler weather, evening outings, and cozy gatherings.

Its versatility makes it suitable for both women and men seeking a comforting yet memorable fragrance.

The sleek black lighter-shaped bottle emphasizes the composition's modern, daring spirit.

Description of the composition

The Nirvana Black composition is built around three key notes: violet, sandalwood, and vanilla.

The floral violet lends the opening a light powdery touch that quickly melts into warm, creamy sandalwood.

Vanilla adds a subtly sweet yet never cloying finish, creating an accord that feels both cozy and mysterious.

It is a minimalist yet rich composition, where each note plays an important role without overpowering the others.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. This fragrance has a sharp smell of expensive alcohol, like cognac or whiskey with chocolate notes and bitter vanilla. It's some strange luxury, as if a chic woman had too much to drink 😒

What kind of nonsense, not perfumery from these stars. These girls, it seems, have no idea what they're doing. The smell reminds me of a sawmill, where logs are lying around and it stinks of sawdust. They mixed wet wood, drops of resin, and some smokiness here. There's nothing intriguing or noble about it, just discomfort and irritation 🤨
