Genyum Photographer — A Spanish Take on the Woody-Spicy Style

Genyum Photographer is a unisex eau de parfum released in 2024.

The composition belongs to the spicy and woody fragrance families, combining vibrant spice, the warm glow of amber, and an expressive woody base.

This modern niche perfume is for those who value character, texture, and a beautiful gradual development over showy projection.

The fragrance was created by Genyum, a young Spanish brand founded in 2019.

Its style is built around creative interpretations of familiar olfactory materials and a free, emotional approach.

In Photographer, this aesthetic comes through especially convincingly: the composition evokes the attentive eye of a photographer who knows how to capture light, shadow, and mood in a single frame.

How the Composition Unfolds

The top notes open with a spicy duo of cardamom and nutmeg, joined by pink pepper with a subtle berry-like sparkle.

The opening feels focused and lively, without sharp dryness, gradually transitioning into a smoother woody heart.

Sandalwood softens the spicy accord with creamy warmth, while solar notes add a sense of gentle radiance and airiness.

In the base, Photographer becomes calmer, deeper, and warmer. Amber, moss, Georgywood, musk, and vanilla create a delicate, slightly sweet background with a clean woody-amber character.

Thanks to this balance, the perfume retains its individuality while remaining comfortable enough for everyday interaction.

Character, Sillage, and Wearability

Genyum Photographer has a subtle sillage, making it suitable for those who prefer a personal fragrance space and an unobtrusive presence.

It develops close to the skin, leaving a soft impression of aromatic spices, warm wood, and a cozy vanilla base.

The unisex positioning feels natural here: on some skin, the composition may seem drier and woodier; on other skin, more amber-like, musky, and slightly gourmand.

Photographer works well in the city, at work, during a walk, or on a quiet evening.

The spicy-woody profile is especially harmonious in cool spring, autumn, and mild winter weather, but its restrained sillage also makes it suitable for indoor wear all year round.

The available data does not specify exact recommendations for the number of sprays on skin or clothing, so it is best to choose the intensity after testing it on your own skin.

The Perfumer and Its Place in the Brand’s Style

The composition was created by Amélie Jacquin, known for her skill in working with expressive materials and creating a harmonious dialogue between them.

In Photographer, she combines a spicy opening, a solar heart, and a soft amber-woody base so that the fragrance feels dimensional without overwhelming its surroundings.

The 2024 release shows how Genyum is developing its niche DNA: the brand turns to recognizable notes but presents them in a modern way, without excessive heaviness.

No other concentrations of this fragrance are listed in the available data.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

A fresh woody-spicy fougère, without mineral dryness. Its presentation felt close to Byredo’s aesthetic, but the fragrance itself and the selection of notes are different. Unfortunately, the longevity is weak. I didn’t pick up any sandy or photographic associations either
