Description of the composition

The note pyramid of Rykiel Man unfolds as a living composition, where layers reveal themselves with precision and warmth. The creative approach of Sonia Rykiel is clear in the way notes appear and fade. No excess details, only what works, and the fragrance holds its character from opening to trail. Eau de toilette keeps a balanced rhythm of unfolding.

Right at the start you detect sparkling citrus first notes: Green Mandarin, Lemon, Marine accord and Neroli. These 4 notes set sunny vitality that is impossible to miss.

In the heart you sense Nutmeg, Rosemary and Saffron holding a cinnamon-nutmeg direction. In the base the composition is fixed through Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vanilla and musk, reinforcing a warm vetiver trail.

The stylistic positioning is masculine, which clarifies the composition character.

At the note-group layer the composition is built around Citrus, Aquatic, Floral and Spicy. It also reaches into Aromatic, Wood, Gourmet and Musk. At family level the scent maps to Citrus and Fern.

Taken together Rykiel Man sounds complete from start to finish — the opening sets direction, the middle layer carries the identity, and the base secures the trail. This is the type of composition best experienced in wear.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Very conspicuous

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

The smell is interesting, sure, but the sage and rosemary sound a bit too soapy. It feels cologne-like, and the drydown is prickly. Overall, it's about freshness that reminds me of cool spices and musk 🌿
