Founded in 2013 in the heart of France, the perfume house Esprit de Versailles seeks to capture and bottle the very essence of splendor. Its name, translating to "Spirit of Versailles," speaks for itself—each fragrance is an olfactory journey to the era of the Sun King Louis XIV, into a world of gallantry, refinement, and unbridled luxury. The brand positions itself in the luxury niche segment, offering limited batches of perfumes where the main focus is on the quality of raw materials, complex compositions, and deep historical narrative.
The concept of Esprit de Versailles is unique and meticulously thought out. The brand's creators were inspired not just by the palace, but by its vivid inhabitants and the atmosphere of intrigue. Each perfume is an olfactory portrait of a noble person: a marquise, duke, or duchess. This idea allows perfumers to work with characters and emotions, creating not just a combination of notes, but an entire story. Even the design of the bottles refers to the architecture of Versailles: clear facets and noble proportions reminiscent of mirror halls and strict symmetry in French gardens.
To embody such an ambitious task, outstanding contemporary perfumers, true stars of the niche industry, were invited. The perfumes were crafted by Nathalie Lorson, known for her bold, often dark and sensual chords for houses like Fragments, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, and many others. The talented Honorine Blanc also contributed to the creation of the perfumes, a perfumer whose work for Burberry, Chloe, and her own projects is renowned for its elegant femininity and airy lightness. Additionally, Vincent Schaller worked on the compositions, a master from the company Mane, whose style is valued for impeccable balancing between classic and innovation.
Although the house's assortment is small and intimate, it has already formed its own bestsellers, true favorites of the public. La Marquise is often called the signature scent of the brand. This feminine, coquettish, yet not lacking depth fragrance with notes of peach, rose, and vanilla perfectly conveys the image of a brilliant favorite. No less popular is the masculine Le Duc—noble, woody, and spicy, with chords of cardamom, cedar, and leather, embodying confidence and aristocracy.
The universal Le Marquis offers a modern interpretation of the classic chypre with citrus freshness and a mossy base. For connoisseurs of luxurious floral compositions, La Duchesse was created with a rich bouquet of tuberose and jasmine. And the lines Esprit de Versailles for Her and Esprit de Versailles for Him represent more accessible, yet no less elegant versions, introducing the aesthetics of the house.
The fragrances of Esprit de Versailles are distinguished by noticeable longevity and an evolving sillage, characteristic of high-quality niche compositions. In the brand's style, the French school of perfumery is discernible: attention to balance, elegance in the presentation of even the most sensual notes, avoiding excessive sweetness or sharpness. Reviews from connoisseurs often note that the house's perfumes possess a "historical" character—they seem familiar, like a memory, yet completely unique. The brand does not chase mass trends, offering instead to become part of a select circle that appreciates eternal classics, reinterpreted through the lens of contemporary mastery.
