History and DNA of the Jacomo Brand

The Jacomo perfume house was born in 1970 from an unusual creative union between American businessman James Kaplan and French pianist Gérard Courtin. The brand name is a clever acronym, formed from their names: James and Courtin. Starting with a leather goods boutique on prestigious Fifth Avenue in New York, the founders quickly realized their true calling was to create emotions through scents. In 1978, the world saw the first fragrance, which forever defined the brand's destiny and became its legend — Silences.

Since 1983, Jacomo's production and creative laboratories have been based in the elegant resort town of Deauville in France, highlighting the brand's deep connection to French perfumery tradition. Jacomo's philosophy is bold minimalism and avant-garde. Contrary to trends for ornate bottles, the house focuses on a concise, often monochromatic design, where the fragrance itself is the main character. This approach, combining artistic boldness with an affordable price, has allowed Jacomo to occupy a unique niche between mass-market and luxury, offering truly interesting and high-quality compositions.

Iconic Fragrances and Signature Collections

The hallmark and most famous creation of Jacomo is rightfully considered Silences. Released in 1978, this green chypre fragrance, built on the contrast of violet, narcissus, and iris, revolutionized the industry and immediately gained recognition, including the prestigious FiFi award. It is called a "quiet masterpiece" and one of the most elegant and intelligent fragrances in history. No less iconic was the house's first men's perfume — De Jacomo (1980), which entered history as the world's first men's fragrance in an entirely black bottle.

The modern history of the brand is marked by the success of the sensual and mysterious Aura line, launched in 2001. These fragrances explore the multifaceted and irrational nature of humanity. In the 2010s, Jacomo surprised the public with bold and modern concepts. The Paradox Green collection, represented by the fragrances Paradox Green Women and Paradox Green Men, plays on the contrast of green and woody notes. And Anthracite for men even challenged traditions, offering an authentic and modernist interpretation of the smell of smoldering coal.

Visionary Perfumers and Creative Signature

Over more than 50 years of history, Jacomo has collaborated with outstanding "noses," whose names guarantee the highest mastery. The legendary Silences was worked on by perfumer Henri Bergia. The modern image of the brand was largely helped by stars such as Christine Nagel (now chief perfumer at Hermès), who is the author of Aura for Men, and the talented Mathilde Bijaoui, who created the gentle Night Bloom. Also, the house's fragrances were worked on by Edouard Fléchier and Bernard Ellena.

Jacomo's creative signature is a combination of French elegance with notes of avant-garde and sometimes light eccentricity. The brand is not afraid to experiment with raw materials and concepts, whether it's crystal-clear green chords, warm woody-ambery trails, or unexpected mineral and smoky notes. At the same time, Jacomo perfumes are famous for their good longevity and recognizable character, making them an excellent choice for those seeking a non-trivial and memorable fragrance.

Legacy and Place in the Modern World of Perfumery

Today, under the management of Laboratories Sarbec, Jacomo remains true to its heritage, continuing to release both cult hits and bold new creations. The brand's products, which meet international quality standards, are exported to dozens of countries. For connoisseurs, Jacomo is a symbol of intellectual perfumery, which speaks not about status, but about personality. From the classic Silences to the daring Anthracite, this house offers a journey through the world of scents, where each stop is an emotion, a memory, or a challenge.
