Jones was born in 1957. In 1979, he graduated from Saint Martin's College in London, after which he designed shoes and created a footwear collection specifically for Sergio Rossi; later he worked on creating postage stamps for the British Royal Mail. But Jones's first true passion was hats.

In the 1980s, he designed headwear for Boy George and Steve Strange, his friends. In 1984, he literally conquered Paris; it was then that Thierry Mugler and Jean-Paul Gaultier invited him to design hats for their brands. Jones also collaborated with brands such as Balenciaga, Comme des Garçons, Vivienne Westwood, and Hermès. Nevertheless, this designer is mainly associated with John Galliano's company; in 2004, they celebrated 10 years of productive and successful collaboration.

At the Stephen Jones store in London, you can purchase not only models from the main line Model Millinery but also the Jonesboy and Miss Jones lines, as well as gloves, sunglasses, scarves, and bags. In 2004, a modern design of caps was developed for British Airways flight attendants. British designer Stephen Jones recently released a signature fragrance.
