Identity and Release History

Imagine a fragrance that became the epitome of avant-garde in the 90s — Yohji Yamamoto Yohji, released in 1996 and produced until 2005.

This women's perfume, presented in the concentration eau de toilette, reflects the philosophy of the brand Yohji Yamamoto — bold, intellectual, and unpredictable.

In Russia, it is often called “Yoshi” or “Yohji Yamamoto,” which only emphasizes its cult status.

Positioning and Wearability

Positioned as a women's fragrance, Yohji Yamamoto Yohji, thanks to its complex structure, can also be a discovery for lovers of unisex perfumery.

Its medium sillage creates a delicate yet noticeable presence, ideal for everyday wear, the office, or creative meetings.

As an eau de toilette, it requires moderate application — just 2-3 sprays on the skin to enjoy its multifaceted development.

For those looking for a modern interpretation, there is the version of Yohji Yamamoto Yohji from 2013, offering an updated sound.

Creators and Influence

Behind the creation of this masterpiece are two outstanding perfumers: Jean Kerleo, known for his work at Jean Patou, and Edith Touati, whose talent gives fragrances a unique depth.

Their collaboration brought to Yohji Yamamoto Yohji classical elegance with a touch of rebellion, which perfectly reflects the brand's DNA — the deconstruction of traditions.

This fragrance strengthened the reputation of Yohji Yamamoto as a creator not only of fashion but also of memorable olfactory images, leaving a mark on the history of the industry.

Perfume information

Description of the composition

The fragrance pyramid of Yohji Yamamoto Yohji starts with a bright opening: bergamot provides a citrus freshness, which is complemented by galbanum and a green chord, creating a cool, almost woody introduction.

At the heart of the composition, juicy berry notes unfold — raspberry and blackberry, adding fruity sweetness and playfulness.

The base is built on warm and sensual chords: sandalwood adds woody softness, vanilla envelops with a sweet coziness, and musk finishes the composition with a delicate skin note.

This combination places the fragrance in the chypre and fruity families, showcasing harmony between classic structure and modern accents.

The fragrance isn't sweet, sour, or bitter, but it has all these notes in perfect proportions, it's just mind-blowing! It's not warm, but not cold either; rather, it has a certain detachment. It creates a special atmosphere around itself. My husband isn't thrilled, which means it's definitely suitable for work!

I won't delve into the details of the fragrance. It's like trying to understand a person by dissecting them. If feelings are genuine, you love not for something, but despite everything. This love remains in memory, even if paths diverge. Yoji seems to pull you out of everyday hustle and bustle, forcing you to look at yourself without a mask. When you first experience it, you realize you're just passing through this world. The fragrance is a philosophy of life. First, it's powerful and loud, with woody and resinous accords, then it transitions into a tart sweetness. It reminds one of a thunderstorm, when the wind strips away everything superfluous, and the rain washes away the unnecessary. And then, after the downpour, the sun once again warms the earth, bestowing a spicy sweetness. These are real emotions, enclosed in a bottle. It's no wonder its slogan is "Angelic Devilry." Once you encounter it, you won't confuse it with anything else. It has no analogues. Strangely, this fragrance always evoked in me a sense of the inner solitude of a strong personality, "The Man in Black," who understood that freedom and solitude are two sides of the same coin. Before buying this perfume, be sure to test it. It's either adored or hated. But it won't leave anyone indifferent. The sillage is so voluminous that it fills everything around, overshadowing even other fragrances, and the longevity is at least a day on the skin. On clothes, it lasts even after washing. I'm talking about the Yoji released in 1996. The 2013 re-issue became flat, losing some of its sillage and stability. If you're choosing perfumes, keep in mind-they don't project like eau de toilette

The smell is beautiful, of course, but the raspberry here is somehow strange. Not the one everyone is used to. Sweetness with some sharp peppery note that presses on your brain. Vanilla sandalwood also doesn't please, and bergamot just screams. I've been using it for ages, and honestly, I don't understand why it became one of my favorites. Sometimes even acquaintances call and ask where I've been, because "my scent" is in the air. I haven't heard anything like it in our small village. So yes, it's definitely me. Compliments pour in, I leave a sillage, but the longevity of this fragrance is simply endless, and that's starting to get annoying

The fragrance is really powerful and memorable. It's bold, mixing sweetness and bitterness, which creates a strange sensation. It's easy to think it's a men's perfume, although it was created by Japanese people, but it doesn't resemble traditional Japanese scents at all 😔

This fragrance reminds me of something luxurious, like you're in a chic boutique or an elegant restaurant where everything sparkles. It evokes a feeling of confidence and style, as if you're adorned in something incredible. For now, it exists separately, and I'm enjoying my moment ✨

This fragrance, in my opinion, doesn't match the stated pyramid at all. For me, it resembles a cherry pit, which, when heated, starts to emit something akin to hydrocyanic acid, and also gives off notes that could be mistaken for almond. I can't say it's pleasant

A spicy and bitter fragrance. I understand it has many fans, but it didn't suit me. I bought it out of nostalgia, but it seems the feelings aren't the same anymore-as if all the good things stayed in the past. Everything seems fine, but it tires me with its obtrusiveness and monotony

Yoshi Yamamoto always sparked my interest, but I never brought myself to buy it. My introduction to it began in 2008, and since then I haven't been able to get past its sharp sandalwood note. It's just unbearable!! But despite that, Yoshi is still cool, incredibly cool. I wouldn't mind smelling it on those for whom this perfume works

The fragrance is really unusual, and it seems I'm not entirely among its fans. At first, it opened up with wormwood for me, and that sensation haunted me for a long time. The sweetish-green bitterness turned out to be too intrusive, and over time it didn't soften, but only intensified. Wearing it for a long time is a real torture, it presses on me. Huge thanks to those who advise testing a perfume before buying - one time was enough for me to understand that it's not for me. I tried the 1996 version specifically, I can't say anything about the 2013 one

My friend and I used it together. It ran out very quickly. Now I need to buy it again. This fragrance definitely has no gender boundaries. Warm sandalwood, tart bergamot, and lots of rough patchouli create something special. The result is something incredibly sexy, like morning hugs after a separation. I haven't encountered anything like it. No fruits or berries, nothing usual or familiar. No sweetness, no gourmand notes, no jasmine with tuberose. But comfort and genuine happiness are guaranteed. Highly recommend

Oh, what nonsense! Fell in love from the first note? Come on, don't make me laugh! This fragrance, it seems, was created just for you, but in reality, it's just intrusive. Very bright, yes, but somehow too deep, and the sillage - it's just unbearable! Soft? I don't know, I think it just gets in the way 😒

always, when I encounter something outstanding, be it music, painting, or any other art, I am filled with wonder: how is this possible?!? how did they create it?!? this perfume is a real find

The fragrance is interesting, with character. First, bright citrus notes are felt, then fresh greens, berries, and sweetish vanilla appear. Woody accents and musk are felt in the base. Longevity is decent, the sillage isn't too intrusive, but it leaves a trail

The fragrance is really bright and intense. It's sweetish, with green and citrus accents, and you can feel woody and musky notes in the base 🌟

The fragrance begins with bright citrus accents, and then unfolds with a berry-musky nuance, into which vanilla and woody notes are interwoven. It's rich, tart, and truly pleasant 🌟
