Clean perfumery: what is a 'green' fragrance?

Imagine a world of perfumery without Opium or Fahrenheit—less daring, more predictable. This was the revolutionary vision of Jean-Louis Séguizac, one of the most influential "noses" of the 20th century. Born in 1930, he received a classical education and began his career at the famous house of Roure Bertrand, which laid the foundation for his impeccable craftsmanship. However, his true creative home was Florasynth, which later became part of the giant Symrise, where he created his greatest masterpieces, forever changing the landscape of the perfume industry.
Sjök's name is inextricably linked to blockbuster fragrances that have remained in the hearts of connoisseurs for decades. His genius was evident in the creation of the bold and sensual Yves Saint Laurent – Opium, which became a real bombshell in 1977. Equally significant milestones were the brutal and modern Dior – Fahrenheit and the refined and mystical Dior – Dune. It all began with the elegant and innovative Jean Couturier – Coriandre, one of the first perfumes to boldly play on the spice of the same name.
Jean-Louis Sieuzac's style can be described as avant-garde and uncompromising. He masterfully worked with powerful, often contradictory accords, creating deep, multifaceted compositions. The perfumer was not afraid to use sharp spicy, leathery, or animalistic notes, as in the exquisite Hermès – Bel Ami, or marine and mineral accents, as in Dune. His fragrances always tell a story, evoke emotion, and challenge conventions, making them relevant at all times.
Throughout his long career, Sieslak has collaborated with the most influential names in the world of fashion and beauty, becoming the chief perfumer for many brands. In addition to his legendary work for Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, he created exquisite compositions for Lancôme (such as Sagamore), chic floral bouquets for Oscar de la Renta, and elegant fragrances for Rochas. His talent was also in demand among niche brands such as Pascal Morabito and the exclusive Omanluxury.
Even in the later stages of his career, Jean-Louis Séguac continued to create, participating in the creation of fragrances for Miles Wambaugh and the mysterious Omanluxury – Wanderlust. His contribution to perfumery has been recognized with numerous awards and the immense respect of his colleagues. Today, his iconic creations, whether Opium or Fahrenheit, continue to garner rave reviews in our community, remaining the benchmark for boldness and artistic integrity. Jean-Louis Sieuzac proved that a true perfume is not just a scent, but a manifesto, and his manifestos will continue to inspire generations to come.
