Identity and History of Coriandre

The fragrance Coriandre by Jean Couturier is a classic women's perfume, released in 1973.

It is part of the eponymous Coriandre collection and embodies the sophistication of Parisian style characteristic of the brand.

The French perfume house Jean Couturier, founded in the same 1973, has always been renowned for its deep understanding of the art of fragrances, and Coriandre became one of its iconic creations, reflecting a love for tradition and innovation.

This fragrance belongs to the Chypre and Floral families, making it a multifaceted and refined choice for connoisseurs of classics.

Its name hints at one of the key notes—coriander—but the composition is much more complex and includes a rich palette of accords, ensuring a unique perception.

Authors and Creative Process

The creation of Coriandre was worked on by a team of talented perfumers: Gérard Pelpel, Jacqueline Couturier, and Jean-Louis Sieuzac.

Their collaborative effort led to the birth of a fragrance that combines elegance and depth, characteristic of French perfumery in the 1970s.

The involvement of Jacqueline Couturier, perhaps linked to the brand's family traditions, adds a special charm and historical value to the fragrance, enhancing its influence on the house's reputation.

Positioning and Wearing Characteristics

Coriandre is available in the concentration of Eau de Toilette, making it light and fresh, ideal for everyday use.

It is positioned as a Women's fragrance, but its versatility may also attract fans of unisex directions.

The fragrance trail is Barely Perceptible, allowing it to subtly accompany you throughout the day without overwhelming others, and it is suitable for the office, dates, or informal meetings.

The fragrance unfolds gradually, starting with bright top notes and transitioning to a floral heart, then to a warm base, ensuring long and pleasant wear.

It is particularly harmonious in spring and summer months, thanks to its fresh accents, and can become a complimentary addition to your look, adding sophistication and confidence.

If you liked Coriandre, you might be interested in similar fragrances: Sisley Soir de Lune, Chloé L'Eau de Chloé, and Tom Ford White Patchouli.

Each of them offers unique interpretations of floral and chypre themes, expanding the perfumery palette for exploration.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The scent is really quiet. It's not as bright and loud as Sisley or Agent Provocateur. Rather, it's close and even intimate, like a favorite scarf that gently hugs your neck when you breathe in the fresh spring air with its earthy and woody notes. Light hints of the first flowers and wild herbs are already woven into it. You can't say it's "chic" - it's simply honest in its simplicity. And yes, there's sadness in it. But it's not a longing for what's gone, but a fleeting, almost invisible sorrow. Sometimes, you go out on a spring morning, look at the cold, clear sky, and suddenly tears appear in your eyes. Why? It doesn't matter, but something aches in your chest and then leaves, and it becomes easier to breathe. Perhaps that's how people awaken from winter hibernation, breathe in the fresh, damp air of spring, and cautiously begin a new stage of life 🌸

The fragrance is simply magnificent! It's delicate, yet at the same time has a bright character. Very captivating, completely unlike typical sweet scents. With it, you feel confident and stylish. I'd say it's perfect for autumn and winter days. This isn't an everyday scent, rather for special occasions or when you want to lift your spirits. The main thing is just not to get a fake

Restrained, simple, with hints of intellect. Pink oakmoss - it's like a game on the verge of temptation. A game that seems to have succeeded. Coriander, like an ice cube, is already dissolving in the glass - passion, as always, is fleeting. But here it is again

This fragrance is certainly something. I use it with a hair mist, and it seems fine, but at work it's just a nightmare. Young girls come in and start: "What's that smell, like valerian?" Well, what can you expect from them if Mexx is something terrible to them. If they knew what real perfume was, maybe they wouldn't dare to speak like that

This fragrance will perfectly complement any business dress or strict outfit! Makeup should be light and subtle, and jewelry - understated but stylish. It's created for a confident woman who knows what she wants and possesses intelligence and charm

Excellent chypre perfume! I don't detect any retro notes or melancholy. It's more invigorating than sad, as some describe it. Very well made, not a single irritating note. It's suitable for men too, by the way. The aldehydes and citruses here are so soft, and the floral bouquet with woody notes and moss is simply gorgeous. I wanted to wear it in winter, but it smells quite fresh, I think it will unfold better in warmer weather. I'll try experimenting with it 🌸

This scent evokes nostalgic feelings in me, although I didn't encounter it in my childhood. It's as if it transports you to the atmosphere of your parents' youth and family gatherings. The fragrance is bright, but not intrusive, it feels close to the skin and delights with notes of forest and spices 🌲✨

Coriandre is completely not modern, but oh, how chypre it is! It's not warm and not cold, but simply palpable and fragrant. It sounds like a symphony orchestra - a lot of everything and yet harmonious!!! I just bought it recently and haven't decided when and where to wear it yet, still experimenting. But, undoubtedly, I like it

I only wear it in the heat, just a tiny bit on my wrists and behind my ear. The scent reminds me of heated wood under the sun. Lilies, geraniums, or narcissus? I don't smell them at all! But maybe that's for the best. In the end, it's just a soft, mossy, and warm chypre. But then there's this harshness and oppressive heaviness. I can't say it's pleasant!!

A very cozy and soft chypre that doesn't overwhelm the nose. The forest scent here is truly natural, all notes sound so harmonious that nothing extra stands out - everything is in perfect balance. When I wear it, I just want to dream and get lost in my thoughts. Walks with this scent become especially pleasant; it creates an atmosphere of solitude. For me, this perfume is more personal, I don't like wearing it in crowded places. I mainly feel cool moss, woody accents, a bit of forest dampness, and a drop of honey. This tiny note adds warmth and completeness to the fragrance

This fragrance, without a doubt, revolves around coriander. This note isn't that rare in perfumery, but here it's given attention I didn't expect. The patchouli is bright, the aldehydes, which, by the way, disappear quite quickly, create cold, sharp accents. At the start, there's a classic floral combination: lilies, jasmine, geranium, violets - all the most fragrant flowers are gathered in Coriandre! Honestly, I can't figure out if I like it or not

Horrible and just a nightmare - a complete disappointment((( I expected a lot from this fragrance, as it was compared to the gorgeous Soir de Lune, and that pushed me to buy it. But when I applied it to my hand, I was just shocked - the smell reminds me of an old metal object crawling on my skin =(( Maybe the old versions weren't bad (I don't remember anymore), but what I got is just no, no, and no again. Personally, I didn't like it at all

This scent reminds me of something long gone. First, there's a sharp greenness, and then it smoothly transitions into white flowers that become slightly powdery over time. The spices here are quite subtle, almost imperceptible, only occasionally peeking through the floral notes. With a white shirt in the office, it wouldn't be bad, but only for those who aren't scared off by its old-fashioned vibe 😔

The fragrance is simply magnificent! Despite its affordable price, it smells very expensive. It's a chypre composition with herbal notes. Perfect for the office during summer. It's both sensual and modest, yet it has its own unique charm 🌸

A gorgeous chypre! Yes, it has that very sharpness it used to have, and that's worth noting. I didn't dare to wear it myself, but memories of my grandmother using it evoke only warm and pleasant emotions. This fragrance is definitely made for women
