Valery Sokolov's journey from technical designer to renowned perfumer is a story of how a passion becomes a life's work. Born in Leningrad in 1975 and having received an excellent technical education, he found his true calling in the world of fragrances. An internship in France played a decisive role, opening his eyes not only to language and art, but also to the subtle craft of fragrance. It was this love that ultimately led him to create his own niche brand, Le Ré Noir, which became his main creative manifesto.

Philosophy and style: perfectionism, impressionism, minimalism

Valery describes his perfumery style in three concise words. Perfectionism is an uncompromising attitude to the quality of ingredients and the purity of the composition. Impressionism manifests itself in his ability to capture fleeting sensations and emotions, whether it be a memory of the Finnish Gulf in summer or the smell of his grandmother's pies. Minimalism is reflected in the elegant simplicity of ideas and clarity of design, where every note is in its place. Valery admits that his main inspiration in perfumery was the legendary master Jean-Claude Ellena.

Iconic fragrances that have won over the community

The perfumes created by Valery Sokolov for Le Ré Noir quickly won the love of niche perfume connoisseurs. Among the most talked about and popular in his collection are the bright and cheerful #279 Jeune Jaune, as well as the refined and delicate #261 Blanc. #129 "H" has also become a real hit—a fragrance in which many recognize a reference to the iconic French house. These and other creations regularly appear in the ratings and must-have lists of the brand's loyal fans.

A virtuoso of green and woody accords

The perfumer's special talent is revealed in his work with natural notes. His personal love for fig leaves (he even grows a fig tree at home!) resulted in the creation of the juicy and appetizing #140 Délice du Figuier. Another passion of the master is virtuoso green and woody compositions, such as the exquisite #164 À l'apogée de Vert and the elegant #116 Vetiver di Genova. His ability to bring familiar natural images to life makes these fragrances incredibly atmospheric and memorable.

Creativity without boundaries: from original concepts to sensations

Freedom of creativity is a key principle in Sokolov's work. He is not afraid of bold experiments, creating both restrained, luxurious compositions such as #154 Pouvoir Absolu and the languid #131 Parfum Exaltant, as well as conceptual works. For example, the fragrance #355 Poirot L, presented at the international VAST Perfume Salon 2019, became a real sensation for connoisseurs. This success confirmed that Valery Sokolov is one of the most vivid and independent voices in contemporary designer perfumery.
