Yana Andreeva is one of the most vibrant and independent voices in contemporary Russian perfumery and the founder of the independent brand Magma. Her story is an inspiring example of how a deep passion and academic interest can blossom into a successful career as a fragrance creator. Born in Ivanovo and now creating her compositions in Moscow, Yana has been surrounded by the world of scents since childhood, which ultimately determined not only her hobby but also her academic path.
Yana's unusual background sets her apart from many of her colleagues. While studying economics and sociology at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, she devoted her master's thesis to the social roots of scents — a study that became the theoretical basis for her future work. She taught herself practical skills by immersing herself in specialized literature, and was particularly influenced by the diaries of legendary perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena. She later honed her craft under the guidance of Zhanna Gladkova and Natalie Feistauer, synthesizing academic knowledge with the practice of high art.
The debut of her own project, Magma, at the Spring Perfume exhibition in March 2017 was a landmark event. The collection immediately demonstrated the breadth of the perfumer's olfactory range. It included both the refined aldehyde #Nude and bold gourmet statements — the energetic #Dopamine and the decadent #Chocoholic. The public's favorites, #Boutique and woody #Waywardpines, as well as the later addition to the line, floral-fruity #Rosedry, cemented Magma's reputation as a brand for sophisticated connoisseurs.
Even before Magma was founded, Yana Andreeva's talent was noticed in the industry. Her portfolio includes a collaboration with the Ladani brand, for which she created four fragrances in 2017. These works demonstrate the perfumer's ability to embody entire narrative universes in scents. The compositions Vasilisa the Beautiful, Queen of Shamakhan, Heavenly Patterns, and Crystal Dew have become favorites among fans of fairy-tale and poetic perfumery, often appearing in personal top lists and community ratings.
Yana Andreeva's style is a mixture of intellectual depth and emotional impact. She works masterfully with gourmand and floral accords, is not afraid of complex contrasts, and always puts an idea into her fragrances. Her journey from researching the sociology of scents to creating a successful niche brand inspires a new generation of perfumers. Yana Andreeva has proven that there is room in modern perfumery for an original, meaningful, and uncompromising approach, winning the sincere love of connoisseurs around the world.
