Description of the composition

The olfactory structure of Cuir d'Iris evolves as a cohesive olfactory arc, where notes flow smoothly and sequentially. The signature of Atelier Materi is evident from the opening to the final trail. No excess details, only what works, and the structure feels complete all the way through. Eau de parfum sets a balanced rhythm of unfolding.

At the opening of the pyramid you sense invigorating sunny top notes: Hot pepper, Mandarin and Petitgrain.

In the heart you sense Iris, Pink pepper and Suede keeping a velvety rose-iris direction.

The olfactory framework is shaped by these accords: Balsamic, Citrus, Musc and Wood with each one in a clear role. Secondary accord layers such as Powdery, Leather and Spicy add depth to the backdrop. The stylistic positioning is unisex, which makes the scent profile easier to read. In wear duration High suggests confident staying power.

From the group perspective the composition is built around Floral, Wood, Spicy and Citrus. The framework further includes Leather, Balsamic, Musk and Whiteflower.

Overall Cuir d'Iris sounds complete from start to finish — the opening sets direction, the middle layer carries the identity, while the drydown anchors the memory. These are the scent structures best understood through real development.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

The scent didn't impress me at all, it seems both crude and unclear. Iris gets lost in sharp ambroxan, and the woody notes scratch the nose. There's a dry film in the composition, as if everything is covered in dust. There's almost no leather, and this isn't a story about leathery irises, as one might expect, but rather about unpleasant wood. There's clearly something wrong with 'iris' in the name, because it's almost imperceptible here, perhaps some powder, but it's framed in such a way that it resembles cement. It's surprising how badly iris could be presented. At the beginning, some citrus and spicy notes are heard, but you don't have time to understand what's what, as ambrocenide immediately kicks in, and there's nothing left underneath, except for a moderately sweet amber-vanilla accord - that's the only thing that brings any joy. All of this is powdered and peppered on top, and the scent lingers for hours. At some point, it seemed like an imitation of oud appeared due to a greenish leathery note (something like the leather from Ford's Ombré Leather), but underneath it, ambrocenide relentlessly grinds away, and something strange comes out. I don't recommend buying it blind, especially for lovers of transparent irises with carrot and roots, be careful 😬
