Fragrance information:

Birkholz Sir Santal — a woody character with an oriental interpretation

Birkholz Sir Santal is a men's eau de parfum released in 2019 and included in the Woody Collection.

This fragrance belongs to the woody and oriental families and is built around an expressive sandalwood accord, spices, leather, and warm resins.

Its mood is composed, confident, and slightly mysterious, with that unmistakable sense of presence that requires no grand gestures.

The brand's style and the fragrance concept

The perfume reflects the aesthetic of Birkholz, a dynamic niche house founded in Berlin in 2019.

Its DNA combines German engineering precision with the free-spirited nature of contemporary art, while Sir Santal translates this contrast into the language of perfumery.

Here, the composition's strict structure is paired with the soft sensuality of sandalwood, amber, and musk.

The name Sir Santal immediately sets the direction: this is a fragrance with a noble, dry yet warm, and tactile character.

It will appeal to those who value not simple freshness, but depth, texture, and a beautiful evolution on the skin.

Its masculine positioning emphasizes its composed character, yet lovers of rich woody-oriental compositions may experience it beyond conventional gender boundaries.

Development and olfactory character

At the opening, black pepper and cardamom create a spicy, energetic impression.

As the fragrance develops, iris and a leather accord join them, adding powdery smoothness and a dark, subtly suede-like depth to the composition.

In the base, sandalwood smells creamy and warm, while amber, benzoin, and musk support it with a soft resinous-woody background.

Birkholz Sir Santal has a very powerful sillage, making it noticeable and well suited to occasions when you want to emphasize your individuality.

It feels especially natural in cool weather, in the evening, at meetings, formal events, and in intimate settings.

For the office and small spaces, it is best to exercise restraint: the rich composition develops impressively but requires careful dosing.

How to wear Birkholz Sir Santal

The eau de parfum develops most fully on warm skin, for example on the wrists, neck, or in the crooks of the elbows.

Applying it to clothing can help prolong the spicy-woody accord, but it is best to test the material's reaction before using it on light-colored or delicate fabrics.

Start with a small number of sprays and assess the sillage after a few minutes: this fragrance has noticeable power and impressive longevity.

What to compare the fragrance with

In terms of richness and oriental mood, Sir Santal may appeal to fans of Yves Saint Laurent Opium, although its focus shifts toward sandalwood, leather, and warm woody tones.

It is a good choice for discovering Birkholz's signature compositions and a modern interpretation of a spicy, resinous men's fragrance.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. The pyramid is huge, and the fragrance is far from simple. There are smoky woods, lots of slightly sweet resins, spices and flowers. The result is a thick, warm perfume. It's more masculine, but I applied literally a tiny dab, and then it sounded softer, lighter and easier to understand. It's a voluminous fragrance with a trail and good longevity, but it sits close to the skin. Buy only at Golden Apple
