Identity and history of Gypsy Water

Released in 2008, the Gypsy Water fragrance by Byredo has become a cult unisex perfume that embodies the spirit of freedom and nomadic life.

Byredo is more than just a perfume house; it is a philosophy born at the intersection of art, memory, and emotions, founded by former professional basketball player and artist Ben Gorham in Stockholm in 2006.

Gypsy Water, known in Russia as "Цыганская Вода" or "Джипси Вотер," is an embodiment of wandering spirit and natural elegance, inspiring travel and self-expression.

Fragrance unfolding: from freshness to warmth

The Gypsy Water fragrance begins with a refreshing burst of citrus and spicy notes, which gradually intertwine with floral and balsamic notes at the heart, ultimately settling on a warm, woody-amber base.

This journey through fragrant landscapes takes you from the freshness of a pine forest to the coziness of a campfire under the open sky, creating a sense of freedom and tranquility, perfect for those seeking harmony with nature.

Positioning and how to wear Gypsy Water

As a unisex fragrance, Gypsy Water suits everyone who values individuality and naturalness.

Its moderate sillage ensures a delicate yet memorable presence, ideal for daily use or special moments.

In a perfume water concentration, it offers balanced longevity that lasts throughout the day.

For optimal effect, apply in a cloud on the skin so the fragrance gently envelops you, and use 1 to 2 sprays on clothing for a longer trail.

Belonging to the fougère and woody families, Gypsy Water highlights its natural character and versatility, making it an excellent choice for any season.

Creator and influence on the perfume world

Created by Ben Gorham, Gypsy Water reflects his unique approach to perfumery, where each note tells a story and evokes emotions.

This fragrance has solidified Byredo's reputation as an innovative brand that boldly experiments with traditional forms.

If you enjoyed Gypsy Water, you might also appreciate Calvin Klein CK IN2U for Her, Avon Herve Leger Femme, and Escentric Molecules Molecule 04 as alternatives with similar accents of freedom and freshness.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. The scent is indeed curious. Frankincense is clearly felt, and there's also the aroma of warm wood, reminiscent of something cozy. Citrus notes with vanilla add an interesting accent. Overall, it's a versatile fragrance, but unfortunately, it doesn't last long on me 😌

The fragrance is simply super. Elegant and with a noble character. First, you feel coniferous and bergamot notes, and then such an unusual sweetness appears that I can't tear myself away from my wrist. A real pleasure!

This perfume really reminds me of a coniferous forest, especially after a scorching day. It's like it transports you to a dying campfire under the night sky, with a gentle breeze caressing your face. The opening notes are bergamot and pine needles, but the bergamot quickly fades, giving way to dry vanilla and smoky notes. It's something unusual, and in my opinion, it's the best fragrance from Byredo. It's as if it captures a hot summer in the south, somewhere in nature among coniferous trees and wildflowers. True love for perfumery 💖

The fragrance begins with bright citrus notes, with a slight sharpness of pepper, as if it awakens memories of a hot summer in me. Against the backdrop of juniper twigs dried under the scorching sun, something special unfolds. In the heart of this fragrance, I feel myself in a pine forest when evening shadows begin to envelop the earth after a scorching day. Sun-heated pine bark fills the air with resinous coniferous notes, and somewhere nearby, embers from a bonfire smolder, creating an atmosphere of coziness and tranquility - all thanks to the frankincense accents. As the fragrance moves to the base, the smoky notes gradually disappear, leaving only the freshness of pine needles and bark. This is truly the scent of freedom and adventure, enclosed in a bottle, and the name "Gypsy Water" suits it perfectly

A fragrance that simply breathes freedom. Sometimes you just want nothing to weigh you down or get in your way. And it's in such moments that this "Gypsy Water" appears, reminding you of roads, fields, and a feeling of lightness. I love it

The fragrance is indeed subtle and woody, with refined notes. It's versatile, suitable for both men and women. Overall, I like it, but the feeling that it constantly slips away doesn't leave me. All in all, not a bad choice! )

How beautiful it is, but alas, too weak. I can't feel it on myself for long. The longevity is simply nonexistent. But overall, it's really pleasant in all aspects - both the citrus notes are delightful, and the composition as a whole is good 😍

The amber accord here just overshadows everything, it's so vanilla-balsamic that it becomes unbearable. At first, of course, there's a little freshness, but this herbaceous-woody dryness of iris and camphorated juniper only adds to the feeling of heaviness. It feels like all perfumery does these days is copy the same thing 😒

In this amazing coniferous forest, a bonfire had recently burned, and its smoke enveloped the prickly branches of the trees. Upon unfolding, the fragrance reveals a sweet vanilla note. This is truly an atmospheric scent that lifts the mood and warms the soul

This fragrance is a complete disappointment for me. First, there's some unbearable mix of citrus and pepper, and then it unfolds as if someone decided to blend juniper with pine bark and frankincense. No harmony, just sharpness and heaviness. I don't understand how anyone could like this 😒

The fragrance is simply wonderful! Floral and coniferous notes blend perfectly, adding a touch of spice. Citrus accents bring freshness, and all together it creates an incredibly harmonious sound. It's not too heavy, but the longevity is simply excellent, and the feeling it gives is incredibly pleasant

Pine needles with vanilla, and that's it. I don't smell anything else. This scent is clearly for those who like something unique, but I think it suits men more. On women's skin, pine notes, in my opinion, don't sound as good

The fragrance is really strange. For me, it's more like a fougère. I can smell juniper, pepper, pine needles, and a bit of vanilla. It opens up better in warmth, and becomes quite captivating

This fragrance leaves me completely perplexed. I can't say I dislike it entirely, but it doesn't evoke delight either. I'll continue to explore it, because it definitely attracts attention!! I'm curious what else it might offer

The name is just intriguing))) The fragrance generally worked for me, the sandalwood is cool, with hints of pine and vanilla, and somewhere in the distance, citrus and a little frankincense can be heard. The work is done at the highest level 👍
