Description of the composition

The note pyramid of Eau de Chocolat is built as a cohesive olfactory arc, where accents shift smoothly and sequentially. The creative approach of Hotel Chocolat. is recognizable from the opening to the final trail. No excess details, only what works, and the fragrance holds its character from opening to trail.

When the structure is mixed the fragrance opens as a single chord with a soft dessert-like mood: Chocolate, Sandalwood and Spices. In this case 3 notes sound as one coherent layer, building comforting softness that keeps the opening compact and balanced.

The deeper layers are felt as a gradual shift without abrupt breaks, which gives the structure continuity.

The olfactory framework is driven by these accords: Gourmet, Wood and Spicy without random overlap. The gender direction is unisex, which sharpens how the fragrance is perceived. In longevity terms Very low suggests confident staying power. In projection Weak describes the way the scent radiates.

From the group perspective the profile is anchored in Spicy, Sweet and Wood.

Taken together Eau de Chocolat reads as a cohesive composition — the opening sets direction, the heart develops the core line, and the final phase leaves a stable imprint. This is the type of composition best experienced in wear.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

1
Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Bought it for my wife, she used to have this perfume, we got it at Hotel Chocolat, not even realizing it was a limited edition. Something very personal, important to our family, is connected to this scent. Seeing the familiar red bottle, I decided to surprise her. But here's the problem, I found out there were only 1000 bottles and the price, to put it mildly, wasn't small. What a shame the scent isn't the same anymore. Now it smells not like chocolate, but like the milk chocolate bars they used to sell in the USSR. Only sandalwood and spices are noticeable. Since 2006, many excellent chocolate fragrances have been released. Compared to them, Hotel Chocolat Eau de Chocolat sounds like water left after washing a hot chocolate mug, with added spices and sandalwood. The 2006 fragrance deserves 5*, but the Hotel Chocolat Eau de Chocolat I smelled in 2021 only deserves 3*, two of which are for the bottle
