Sorabji — a gourmand fantasy with character

Sorabji by January Scent Project is a unisex eau de parfum from 2025, created for those who want more than simply sweet or simply spicy scents.

This is an oriental gourmand fragrance with a contrasting, almost cinematic texture: juicy fruit meets the astringency of tea, spices, and leathery depth.

The composition was created by John Biebel, and Sorabji particularly showcases the brand’s signature approach to fragrance as an emotional canvas.

This release does not aim to be a neutral backdrop: it is expressive, warm, and slightly mysterious, leaving room for personal associations.

How the fragrance unfolds

At the heart of Sorabji is an unexpected combination of apricot, black tea, black pepper, and tarragon.

Apricot lends the composition a soft, velvety fruitiness; tea adds a dry, slightly smoky facet, while peppery spice and green tarragon keep the sweetness from becoming too straightforward.

Gradually, the fragrance gains a denser, more sensual dimension.

Amber, vanilla, and a leather accord create a rich, warm base, while osmanthus connects the fruity, floral, and suede-leathery nuances.

No official division into top, heart, and base notes has been announced for Sorabji, so it is more interesting to experience it as a seamless accord that shifts its facets on the skin.

Sillage and mood

Sorabji has a very strong sillage: it is noticeable, highly expressive, and can become the main accent of an outfit.

Its rich amber-gourmand profile feels especially natural in cool weather, in the evening, at meetings, exhibitions, dinners, and other occasions when you want to add confidence and dramatic warmth to your look.

Despite its sweet and fruity motifs, this is not a carefree dessert-like fragrance.

Tea, leather, pepper, and herbaceous tarragon make it more mature, complex, and universally unisex: Sorabji can beautifully complement both a soft, cozy style and a minimalist dark look.

How to apply Sorabji

Because of its very strong sillage, start with one spray on the skin—for example, on the wrist or collarbone area.

If you would like a more noticeable presence, you can add another spray, but it is best to give the fragrance a few minutes to unfold before intensifying it.

Sorabji should also be applied sparingly to clothing: one light spray from a distance is usually enough.

Dark, dense fabrics convey its warm trail particularly well; however, before applying it to delicate materials, it is wise to test it on an inconspicuous area.

Those who enjoy a similar magic of fruit, amber, and sweet warmth may also wish to discover Hermès Elixir des Merveilles.
