Description of the composition

The note pyramid of Cologne 1888 evolves as a continuous scent journey, where accents shift without rush and without gaps. The creative approach of Miller Harris is recognizable from the opening to the final trail. No excess details, only what works, and the composition keeps a clear direction. Eau de parfum sets the right density and pace of development.

The accord architecture is driven by these accords: Aromatic, Citrus, Musc and Spicy without random overlap. The stylistic positioning is unisex, which makes the scent profile easier to read.

In a unified mixed pyramid the opening appears as one connected movement with a cool lavender mood: Basil, Bergamot, Bitter Orange, Caraway, Marjoram, Rosemary and musk.

The inner phases are felt as a gradual shift without abrupt breaks, which keeps the fragrance coherent.

At olfactory-group level the structure relies on Aromatic, Citrus, Spicy and Musk. From a family perspective the fragrance belongs to Aromatic and Citrus.

In summary Cologne 1888 sounds complete from start to finish — the opening sets direction, the central phase adds depth, and the final phase leaves a stable imprint. These are the scent structures best understood on skin.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Very conspicuous

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

A fragrance that combines musk and citrus, with light notes of greenery and spices, makes me nostalgic. Definitely summery, but it feels like it's not quite what it used to be. The longevity leaves much to be desired, but maybe that's not even important. It's suitable for everyone, but the feeling that something's lost just won't go away 🌿
