Discovering Bigarade by Parfums 137 Jeux De Parfums

Imagine a sunny Mediterranean morning: a light breeze, the whisper of leaves, and you enjoying the freshness of a citrus garden.

Bigarade, released in 2013 by the French niche house Parfums 137 Jeux De Parfums, is imbued with precisely this mood.

This brand turns fragrance creation into an engaging game, and Bigarade is one of the brightest examples of this philosophy.

The composition was created by renowned perfumer Isabelle Maillebiau, who crafted a versatile unisex fragrance belonging to the citrus family.

Bigarade is more than just a perfume; it is an olfactory play of contrasts, where the tangy bitterness of orange intertwines with the softness of flowers and the warmth of woody notes.

Character and Sillage

Bigarade is available as an eau de parfum, ensuring good longevity, while its sillage is subtle. The fragrance wears delicately and intimately, like a personal secret.

It is the ideal choice for those who appreciate elegance and dislike overpowering scents.

Bigarade unfolds gradually: first comes a vivid citrus burst, followed by a floral-fruity heart, before the composition settles into a soft woody-musky base.

With its light, refreshing character, Bigarade is perfectly suited to spring and summer, as well as daytime occasions, from business meetings to walks outdoors.

It gives a feeling of cleanliness and joy without overwhelming the senses.

The Perfumer and the Brand

Isabelle Maillebiau is known for her ability to combine natural ingredients and create multifaceted compositions.

In Bigarade, she brings the idea of play to life: tart, bitter orange meets delicate jasmine and sweet peach, while woody notes add depth.

It is a mood fragrance that will appeal equally to lovers of classic perfumery and fans of niche experimentation.

How to Wear and Layer It

Bigarade is a versatile standalone fragrance, but if you enjoy layering, try complementing it with something from the citrus or jasmine spectrum.

It pairs beautifully with warm woody fragrances, creating an appealing contrast.

If you like Bigarade, consider similar compositions such as Molinard Violette, Balmain Vent Vert, and H&M Les Cayes Vetyver.

Description of the composition

The Bigarade composition is built on the contrast between bitter and sweet. The top notes — bitter orange (bigarade) and lemon — create a refreshing tart-bitter opening.

The heart unfolds with a delicate bouquet of jasmine, juicy peach, and powdery violet. The base features warm woody accents of guaiac wood and vetiver, softened by sensual musk.

This elegant pyramid makes the fragrance multifaceted while remaining light and unobtrusive.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

I only saw 15 ml, I wonder if this brand has larger bottles. The fragrance is simply amazing, it fills you with energy for the whole day and gives a lightness, like an antidepressant. The scent is sweetish-peachy-lemony, sparkling and playful. These are the kind of citrus notes I like))) I can't figure out if I like it or not, but there's definitely something to it

This perfume isn't simple at all. It's as if it's filled with a light sadness, even though it tries to create an atmosphere of joy. It definitely lifts the mood, but there's something melancholic about it that makes you think. My friend has it, and I sometimes use it when I visit. I really want one for myself, but I haven't found where to buy it yet. It's definitely on my wishlist
