Identity and History

Eau Illuminee by niche brand Parfums DelRae was launched in 2002—the same year the brand itself was founded in San Francisco. This fragrance was among the first to set the tone for the entire collection.

Released as an eau de parfum, it was conceived from the outset for women who appreciate refinement and natural elegance.

Olfactory DNA

The fragrance belongs to the fougère family and is built around a contrast between fresh greenery and soft powderiness.

Top notes of basil and bergamot, combined with a green accord, create a sparkling, almost cool opening.

The heart unfolds with noble iris and lavender, evoking the sensation of a gentle breeze. A base of labdanum, oakmoss, and tonka bean brings warmth and a soft, slightly sweet trail.

Creator and Character

The composition was created by legendary perfumer Michel Roudnitska, a master known for his ability to craft transparent yet profound fragrances.

In Eau Illuminee, he combines herbaceous freshness with a delicate floral haze, resulting in a fragrance that feels deeply personal and intimate.

This is not a bold statement but a quiet whisper—an ideal adornment for everyday moments.

Sillage and Application

The fragrance has a subtle sillage, making it ideal for the office or close encounters. Do not be afraid to apply it more generously—it will remain delicate and will not overwhelm those around you.

Thanks to its eau de parfum concentration, it also offers quite respectable longevity.

Similar Fragrances

If you like Eau Illuminee, consider John Varvatos Vintage, which also has a herbaceous-woody character.

You may also want to try Dior Eau Sauvage and Van Cleef & Arpels Tsar—all are united by fougère freshness and masculine elegance, although Eau Illuminee has a softer, more feminine character.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

Honestly, the fragrance gives a sense of dustiness and heaviness, which you totally don't expect after it opens so pleasantly. It's unclear where this dustiness comes from, as there's nothing like it in the description 😔

The scent really surprised me. At first, it was simply amazing - a whole bouquet of fresh flowers and herbs, as if just gathered after rain, very captivating… But after half an hour, all that freshness disappeared, and the grass became a bit dry (though for me this isn't critical, because even dried herbs can smell nice) Then a sweetness started to emerge in the fragrance, reminiscent of old theatrical dressing rooms: lipstick, old powder, a bit of moldiness and dust… 😕
