Zadig & Voltaire Zadig — a fragrance with Parisian character

Zadig & Voltaire Zadig is a 2025 unisex perfume created for those who love expressive compositions with character.

This eau de parfum has a spicy-floral and gourmand profile, where Parisian nonchalance meets the brand’s rock ’n’ roll energy.

The fragrance continues the signature aesthetic of Zadig & Voltaire, a fashion house founded in Paris in 1997 by designer Thierry Gillier.

The brand’s name itself refers to the hero of a Voltaire novel, while its style has long been associated with freedom, contrasts and an alluring sense of ease.

Zadig’s fragrance pyramid and development

Perfume creators Amandine Cler-Marie and Florian Gallo worked on the creation of Zadig.

Their duo built the composition around a contrast of sparkling spices, airy white flowers and a soft creamy base, giving the fragrance a noticeable yet multifaceted character.

Zadig opens with a piquant accord of black and white pepper, ginger and sesame.

After a while, the spicy energy softens: neroli and orange blossom emerge at the heart, adding sunny freshness and elegant floral transparency to the composition.

In the dry-down, the fragrance becomes warmer and cozier.

Sandalwood, vanilla and Chantilly cream create a creamy, slightly dessert-like scent that lingers beautifully on the skin and leaves a soft yet highly noticeable impression.

Character, sillage and wearability

Zadig is positioned as a unisex fragrance: it develops equally naturally on women and men, while its perception depends on skin temperature and individual sensitivity to spices.

The spicy notes make it confident and composed, the white-floral accord keeps it bright, and the vanilla-sandalwood base adds sensuality.

The perfume has very strong sillage, making Zadig especially well suited to cool weather, evenings, dates, parties or important occasions.

It can also work well in an everyday office setting if applied sparingly: 1–2 sprays on the skin are enough, while one spray from a distance is sufficient for clothing.

If you want to step into a literal cloud of fragrance, apply the composition to pulse points and lightly refresh it on your clothes.

However, the rich base makes its presence known quickly, so an extra dose will not always be necessary.

Who will enjoy Zadig

This fragrance is worth trying for fans of spicy, gourmand and floral compositions who want more than understated transparency.

Zadig is a good choice for those looking for a distinctive perfume with character: it first feels bold and energetic, then becomes creamy, warm and more intimate.

It does not replicate Zadig, but may appeal to those who enjoy noticeable sillage and a rich, compliment-getting scent.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

I do not like vanilla, ginger or pepper, especially when there is so much of them. I tried several times to wear the fragrance for longer, but I could not get used to it. For many people it turns sweet, while on me it is almost immediately one sharp pepper note. Not soft or cozy, rather irritating. It becomes prettier in the base, with creaminess and a little sandalwood, but waiting for that development takes too long. Definitely test before buying. The longevity and sillage are enormous, after one spray the smell lingers throughout the apartment for a long time
