I don't like it when there's too obvious a rose in perfumery. But there are exceptions, such as Ted Lapidus pour homme, L`Artisan Parfumeur Voleur de Roses, Sisley Soire De Lune, and Amouage Lyric pour homme. This oil, which smells so strongly, simply suffocates me, it sounds too straightforward and intrusive. In my experience, not many perfumers manage to beautifully incorporate this flower into the overall bouquet. When I went into Rive Gauche Palace on Bolshoy Prospekt in August for Nasomatto and they offered me to try Gold Rose Oudh, I grimaced a bit, thinking I wouldn't be able to appreciate this mono-fragrance. But the consultant, bless her, insisted. I remember how in the 90s, shops with oriental goods opened in Russia, selling everything from masks to incense sticks. I always liked going into such shops, turning tubes of "smelly sticks" in my hands and inhaling the aromas. It was like a journey to bright countries with their exoticism. When I opened the bottle of Gold Rose Oudh, I was immediately transported back to those times when I was young and inhaling the scents of distant lands. This fragrance truly evokes hot sand and the juice of herbs. The rose doesn't appear immediately, it hides behind coniferous branches and patchouli. I was glad to hear not a sharp essential oil, but the melody of a freshly cut flower with dew drops. Oud adds that very moisture that emphasizes freshness. Sandalwood prevents the fragrance from turning into musk, adds sharpness and dries it out a bit. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the bergamot, perhaps it's hidden in the floral notes. Sweetness is given by honey, a little bitter and dark, pleasantly tickling the nose. The concentration of the fragrance is Extrait de Parfume, which means more than 25% oils.
