The Coppelia Pique brand was founded in 2011 by French fashion designer Axelle Mige. Together with renowned perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou, the first fragrance composition was released under the name L'Elixir de Vie (The Elixir of Life). The distinctive name of the brand was taken from the ballet Coppélia by French composer Léo Delibes. The ballet tells the story of a lonely man's love for an enchanted porcelain doll that has the ability to feed on the life force of its only lover.
Juliette Karagueuzoglou, speaking about the creation of this project, noted that the porcelain doll Coppélia inspired her and became a metaphor for the scent of the fragrance composition. As a base, the perfumer used notes of exciting saffron and sulfurous gunpowder; the awakening doll is depicted by fresh chords of red berries and energetic woody notes. At dusk, Coppélia finally comes to life with the fragrances of tuberose and the unique musky accents of spikenard.
The fragrance composition The Elixir of Life, released by the brand Coppelia Pique, recreates the image of a doll that escaped from a fairy tale, taking the life of the man in love with her. The composition is dedicated to artificial beauty and embodies a love potion that can take life and transfer it to an inanimate object: it is the antithesis of death and life, natural and unnatural beauty, synthetic and natural components.
