Scent as part of identity: finding your perfume signature

Immerse yourself in the history of the House of Godet – one of the oldest and most respected perfume brands in France, whose fate is closely intertwined with the Parisian bohemia of the early 20th century. Founded in 1901 (though some sources indicate 1900) by Julien-Joseph Godet, this house from the very beginning became synonymous with refined taste and artistic freedom. Its boutique on the famous Rue de Rivoli was not just a shop, but a true salon where muses, models, and artists from the circles of Pierre Bonnard and Henri Matisse gathered. It was this proximity to the world of art that laid the unique DNA of the brand: perfume as an act of creativity, intended for bold and independent individuals.
The splendor of Godet quickly spread beyond Paris. In 1920, an elegant salon opened in Nice, on the Côte d'Azur, marking a new stage in the brand's life. The peak of recognition was winning the gold medal at the famous International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925 for the fragrance Folie Bleue. This award, one of the most prestigious in the world of design and art at the time, forever inscribed the name Godet in the perfume Olympus. Another historical hit, presented as early as 1908, was the chypre Fleurs de Reine, which today is considered one of the hallmarks of the revived brand.
After a period of prosperity, the brand, like many others, faced difficulties and temporarily stopped producing perfumes in the 1970s. It seemed the legend had faded into oblivion. However, in 2016, the great-granddaughter of the founder, the talented perfumer Sonia Godet, took on the mission to revive the family heritage. She not only restored archival formulas but breathed new life into them, carefully renovating the family home in the picturesque Provençal town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence. It is here, in the heart of Provence, that Godet's fragrances are born today. Sonia Godet sees her task as preserving the soul and quality of the original creations, adapting them to modern perfume standards, using high-quality natural ingredients.
The philosophy of modern Godet is a dialogue between past and present. Each bottle is a journey through time, where respect for history combines with a contemporary view of perfumery. The brand remains true to its roots, producing perfumes in France and emphasizing manual work and exceptional attention to detail, which characterizes it as a truly niche house.
Godet's portfolio today is a harmonious mix of restored historical masterpieces and completely new compositions. The flagship line is the EAU DE PARFUM COUTURE collection, presented in elegant bottles that offer two application options: a classic spray or a delicate applicator for precise, almost ritualistic handling of the perfume. Among the bestsellers to start getting acquainted with the brand, fans particularly highlight the sensual and mysterious Corps & Ames and the sunny, Provençal Voyage à Saint Paul, which embodies the spirit of the revived house.
For lovers of classics and rich floral bouquets, it's worth paying attention to the updated Fleurs de Reine. For those seeking complex, deep compositions, the amber-vanilla Révélation or the mysterious Chant du Soir will appeal. Each Godet fragrance is distinguished by pronounced longevity and a voluminous, yet refined trail, which is characteristic of luxury perfumery. The brand's style can be described as French elegance with an artistic character: in its perfumes, elegant floral chords, warm oriental notes, and fresh green or citrus bursts are often found.
