The history of Revlon is a classic American dream come true, embodied by three enthusiasts: brothers Charles and Joseph Revson and chemist Charles Lachman. It is believed that their joint business began to take shape in 1932, and officially the company Revlon was founded in 1935. Their revolutionary idea was simple and brilliant: to create the world's first collection of opaque, pigmented nail polishes that could harmoniously match lipstick. This innovation, born over lunch when Charles Revson saw the color disharmony on his interlocutor's napkin, forever changed the beauty industry, making makeup a holistic art.
The brand's philosophy has always been about democratizing luxury—creating high-quality, innovative products accessible to every woman. It was Revlon that gave the world the first hairspray, the first waterproof mascara, and the first liquid foundation. This spirit of innovation naturally led the company into the world of perfumery, where it also sought to speak the language of its era.
Entering the perfume market in 1968 with the fragrance Norell, Revlon truly exploded it in 1973 by launching the perfume Charlie. This fresh, green chypre fragrance became not just a perfume, but a cultural phenomenon and symbol of the new, independent, businesswoman of the 1970s. Its advertising campaign with model Shelby dressed in a pantsuit was a bold challenge to traditions. Charlie instantly became a bestseller and received the prestigious FiFi Award, and later grew into a whole collection of variations, such as Charlie Gold and Charlie Pink, remaining the brand's signature for decades.
Besides Charlie, Revlon's perfume treasure trove includes other cult names. The romantic Jontue (1975) with notes of meadow flowers became a favorite for gentle natures, and the sensual, spicy Scoundrel (1980) and Ciara (1973) won love for their longevity and character. More modern hits, for example, the seductive Fire & Ice (1994) or playful Bling Bling, continue the tradition of creating affordable but memorable fragrances for different life situations.
The quality and recognizability of Revlon's perfumes are the merit of talented perfumers, many of whom are true stars of the industry. The brand collaborated with the legendary Sophia Grojsman, author of numerous bestsellers, whose handwriting is recognizable by juicy fruity-floral chords. No less significant contribution was made by Annie Buzantian, a FiFi Award laureate. In creating fragrances for various lines, masters such as Susanne Lang, Serge Majoullier, Francis Camail, and Judith Cross also participated. Their joint work allowed Revlon to cover a wide palette of tastes, from classic floral compositions to modern oriental and fruity notes.
Revlon's fragrance assortment is clearly structured by collections, making it easy to find a scent for your mood. The undisputed flagship remains the extensive Charlie line, including dozens of variations—from the fresh Charlie Breeze to the crystalline-chypre Charlie Crystal Chic. For fans of sweet and romantic chords, the collections Pink Happiness and Love Her Madly were created. The lines Head Over Heels and 24 Seven Man offer options for bold, passionate natures and the modern man. This approach makes Revlon's perfumery incredibly diverse and accessible.
Revlon has forever inscribed its name in history not only as a beauty giant but also as a brand that reflected and shaped the spirit of the time. Its fragrances, especially Charlie, became symbols of social change. Even after going through financial difficulties and restructuring in 2022, Revlon remains a recognizable and beloved brand for millions around the world. Its perfumes are valued for their good price-quality ratio, recognizable longevity, and that very "American" cheerfulness in the bouquet. Discussions, reviews, and ratings of Revlon fragrances, such as Splendid or Charlie Touch, are still actively conducted in perfume communities, proving that a true icon is timeless.
