Pheromone perfume: can fragrances increase attractiveness?

Jacques Polge is a name synonymous with luxury, elegance, and impeccable taste in the world of perfumery. For almost four decades, from 1978 to 2015, he was the chief perfumer, "nose," and guardian of the Chanel heritage. He is called a legend who managed to reinterpret the classics for new generations, creating fragrances that became absolute bestsellers and the object of adoration for millions.
Born in 1943 in the south of France, Jacques absorbed the Mediterranean scents from childhood, which would later become a source of inspiration for him. Initially studying English philology, he radically changed his path, succumbing to the call of his heart and sense of smell. His training in Grasse, the perfume capital of the world, under the guidance of master perfumer Jean Carles laid the foundation for his future greatness.
His career began at Roure (now Givaudan), and his first commercial fragrances immediately demonstrated his potential. He created the sensual chypre Diva for Emanuel Ungaro and, most importantly, the iconic Rive Gauche for Yves Saint Laurent in 1971 — a fragrance that became the anthem of the free and creative Parisian woman.
His invitation to Chanel in 1978 was a turning point. His first major work was the powerful and sensual Antaeus, which heralded a new, modern masculine beginning. But his true feat was the careful and masterful reformulation in 1986 of the greatest icon — Chanel No. 5, which the whole world knows and loves today. He not only preserved the spirit of the fragrance, but made it more harmonious for modern perception.
Jacques Polge's style is an amazing balance between bold modernity and respect for the House's DNA. He masterfully worked with abstract floral bouquets, spicy and woody accords, creating multifaceted, emotional stories. Under his leadership, fragrances were born that defined the perfume fashion of the late 20th and early 21st centuries: the luxurious and mysterious Coco, the rebellious and feminine Coco Mademoiselle, the versatile and radiant Allure, as well as the playful and optimistic Chance series. His men's creations, such as the ultra-chypre Égoïste and the charismatic Bleu de Chanel, have become benchmarks for generations.
Especially for true connoisseurs, Polge created the private line Les Exclusifs de Chanel, where the stories of Coco Chanel came to life in each composition. Fragrances such as Beige, Jersey, and 1932 are the highest expression of his art. At the same time, he created exquisite perfumes for the Tiffany jewelry house and continued to work with brands such as Bourjois.
In 2015, Jacques Polge gracefully handed over his legendary position to his son, Olivier Polge, thus continuing the unique perfume dynasty. His retirement marked the end of an era, but his fragrances remain alive, breathing masterpieces. Each bottle of his creations is not just a perfume, but a piece of history, the embodiment of French chic and the boundless talent of a master who forever changed the olfactory landscape of our lives.
