Emanuel Ungaro Diva: The History of a Legendary Fragrance

Imagine Paris in 1983: an era of glamour, high fashion, and bold perfume experiments.

It was then that the world saw Emanuel Ungaro Diva — a fragrance that instantly became a symbol of luxury and femininity.

Released under the famous brand Emanuel Ungaro, founded in 1977 by a designer whose name is associated with French passion and floral extravagance, this perfume entered history as one of the icons of the 80s.

It belongs to the Diva collection and was created by the legendary perfumer Jacques Polge, whose talent gave it a unique character.

Diva is classified as a chypre and floral fragrance, combining elegance and sensuality, which perfectly reflects the brand's DNA.

Positioning and How to Wear Diva

Diva is a women's fragrance, designed for confident girls and women who appreciate classic with a touch of drama.

As a perfume water, it has a rich formula that unfolds gradually, leaving behind a medium trail — noticeable enough to attract attention, but not overwhelming.

Perfect for evening outings, romantic dates, or special occasions when you want to feel like a true diva.

It is recommended to apply to pulse points — wrists and neck — so that the fragrance develops harmoniously on the skin.

If you are looking for similar options, pay attention to Sisley Soir de Lune, Novaya Zarya Or des Scythes Zlato Skifov or Paloma Picasso Paloma Picasso — they also embody luxury and depth.

This fragrance not only reflected the aesthetics of the 1980s with their love for brightness and complexity, but has remained relevant today, thanks to its universal appeal.

It symbolizes courage and sophistication, making it a favorite among connoisseurs of classic perfumery.

Diva continues to inspire new generations, reminding us that true elegance never goes out of style.

Description of the composition

The pyramid of Emanuel Ungaro Diva begins with a sparkling start, where aldehydes, bergamot, cardamom, coriander, mandarin and tuberose create a fresh and spicy explosion that instantly captures attention.

In the heart of the composition, a burst of flowers unfolds: carnation, iris, jasmine, narcissus, rose and ylang-ylang intertwine in a sensual dance, adding depth and warmth.

The base wraps in a luxurious blanket of amber, honey, iris, oakmoss, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver and musk, creating a long-lasting, sweet-woody finish that leaves an unforgettable impression.

This complex structure ensures a smooth development from a bright beginning to a gentle heart and a stable base, making the fragrance multifaceted and intriguing throughout the day.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Jacques Polge is truly one of the most outstanding perfumers. The Diva fragrance is a real star, from its theatrical bottle to its magnificent contents. It seems he was so captivated by his creation that he soon created something similar for the House of Chanel - the Coco perfume. Of course, they are different: Coco is an oriental charm with warm resinous and frankincense notes, while Diva is a complex floral-honey chypre.

After a bright opening with aldehydic-honey and animalic accords, true harmony sets in. All the floral notes begin to unfold, and oakmoss carefully builds this symphony into a strict line. This is why I value chypres - for their ability to smooth out any seeming disharmony.

Closer to the base, especially in warm weather, a velvety honey hue appears, and Diva starts to resemble Coco. The fragrance is incredibly long-lasting, it can stay on clothes for weeks. Before going out, it's better to apply it an hour in advance so that Diva has time to 'warm up' and envelop you, getting ready to meet others. She's a true beauty who makes everyone realize what a real woman is)))

How lucky I am to have discovered the vintage Diva fragrance! It's just something else!!! It made such a strong impression on me, words can't describe it. An image immediately comes to mind: me in an evening scarlet dress, with an updo, relaxed in an armchair, with a cigarette in a long holder. Nearby, an old gramophone plays, and French melodies hiss from the record.

This fragrance truly transports you to another time, making you feel completely different. It fills you with confidence and adds a bit of audacity to your look. The rich tuberose envelops, entices, and attracts! This honeyed, exotic, and animalic scent drives you crazy and turns heads. Don't miss the chance to try it

Vintage. Oh, how that word makes your heart skip a beat. This fragrance, it really stands out from everything else on the market right now. Floral notes, but not cliché ones, true connoisseurs will understand its depth. Everything around has become so boring and faceless, but here - it's something special, something that makes you remember what can't be brought back

The scent is really interesting. Vintage is always something special. Not everyone will appreciate it, as other notes are more popular now. But for those looking to broaden their horizons, it's a great option )

The scent, of course, isn't simple, like most vintages. It's long-lasting, with such a trail that half the city runs after you. Sometimes it's good to get to know these old-school types, but not everyone's into it 😒

I was recently browsing the perfume section and stumbled upon this little bottle. It looks like it's made of crystal. I sprayed it on a blotter and immediately noticed powdery notes. It's definitely a Diva: the scent immediately grabs attention. It starts with aldehydes, lots of flowers, especially ylang-ylang. The fragrance is really beautiful, but it's not for me. I wish someone close to me would wear it. I wouldn't choose it for myself 😌

Chypre fragrances, in my opinion, really have their charm. This particular scent, it's so warm and even a little languid. The notes in it remind me of White Brilliant Taylor. The longevity is simply impressive, the sillage is long and rich. I appreciate it for the atmosphere of calm it creates. This fragrance seems made for those who are confident and know what they want from life. But you need to be careful with it so as not to overwhelm others. On cold skin, it unfolds simply magnificently. Now it has become a real discovery for me

A fragrance that really stands out among everything the brand offers. You won't find anything like it from Ungaro. This spicy and sweet composition with retro notes evokes nostalgia, they say Sophia Loren adores it 😔

What a damn complex scent! You can tell it was released ages ago. The flowers here are so heavy, the aldehydes are overwhelming, and the sweet resinousness is just off the charts. There's so much moss here, it's hissing everywhere like it wants to choke everyone. In short, there's an excess of all of it. If you love real chypres, not that crap they're selling under that name now, then maybe this is for you. I won't rate it, because chypres and retro aren't my thing. But if it's your cup of tea, then please enjoy

I prefer old formulas, I actually have a vintage version. New fragrances, even if they can be good, don't impress me. Chypre new releases are too harsh, and after a couple of hours you just can't smell them anymore! I hadn't tried Ungaro before, but Diva pleasantly surprised me. It's a truly complex and beautiful floral scent, noble and rich. The longevity also made me happy, I'll definitely enjoy using it! 🌸

After I bought the new version, it took me about three months to get used to them. Now I understand how complex and multifaceted they are! Love them so much. I put them on in the morning and listen to how they change. It's endlessly delightful! And, of course, the retro one is simply gorgeous)))

I stumbled upon this perfume, and at first glance, it's perfect for the autumn season. It's a honey chypre scent with tart notes. Iris adds a slight powderiness, and the aldehydes are soft. Overall, the fragrance is cozy, but not for romance - more for confident business women)))

What the heck, this is just amazing! First, you get bitter top notes, then some sweetness comes through with floral and honey undertones. After half an hour, it's just honey notes, and that's it. I associate it with a hot summer day, with bees buzzing around and flowers growing in the meadows. Honestly, I don't get how this connects to the name DIVA. Someone else probably perceives this Emanuel Ungaro scent differently. I wouldn't say the perfume is bad or ugly - it's actually good, but I just didn't get it

This perfume is just amazing! A honey scent, so luxurious, but it has such a chypre feel to it… And I don't like chypre notes, they just don't wear well on me. What a shame 😔

The opening notes are truly impressive! But with the drydown, alas, it's not all that smooth. It seems the fragrance lacks that certain tenderness that would make it cozier. The sillage, if you smell it from afar, looks beautiful, but I just couldn't wear it on myself. This scent isn't for me. We just didn't click
