Thierry Wasser

Thierry Wasser

Парфюмер

Swiss custodian and innovator

Thierry Wasser is a name synonymous with contemporary elegance in the world of perfumery. Today, he holds the legendary position of in-house perfumer at Guerlain, becoming the fifth master in this role and the first who does not belong to the famous Guerlain dynasty. His journey from amateur botanist to chief "nose" of one of the oldest perfume houses is a story of passion, dedication, and impeccable taste.

From wildflowers to perfume accords

Born in Lausanne in 1961, Thierry was fascinated by the world of plants from an early age. His passion for collecting and studying flora naturally led him to study botany and biology. A chance mention of the perfume school at Givaudan was a fateful turning point, and he spontaneously applied and was accepted in 1981. This decision changed his life forever and led him to Paris, the heart of the perfume industry, in 1987.

First steps and successes in the world of fragrances

His first commercial works, Dali Pour Homme and Furyo for Jacques Bogart, quickly demonstrated his talent. His career gained momentum when he joined another perfume giant, Firmenich, which allowed him to work with leading brands. During this period, he co-created the fresh and clean Calvin Klein Truth, then created his first bestsellers: the seductive Dior Addict and its refreshing flanker Addict Eau Fraiche, as well as the hypnotic Lancôme Hypnose, co-created with Annick Menardo.

A master of many trades: from niche houses to luxury

Before joining Guerlain, Vasser's portfolio was already impressive in its diversity. He created exquisite fragrances for Van Cleef & Arpels (Les Saisons Printemps), the chic Fendi Palazzo, the playful Caline and Caline Night for Parfums Grès, the brilliant Emporio Armani Diamonds, and the elegant Chopard Pour Homme. This work cemented his reputation as a versatile master, capable of capturing the DNA of any brand.

A new era for the legendary house of Guerlain

In 2008, Thierry Wasser took up the historic baton, heading up Guerlain's perfume creation. His mission is to honor the house's heritage by carefully updating the classic lines, while boldly looking to the future. He immediately established himself as a worthy successor, presenting the public with the refined Idylle, the luxurious Tonka Imperiale, and the sensual vanilla interpretation of the legendary Shalimar Ode De La Vanille.

Creator of modern icons

It was under Wasser's leadership that Guerlain's two most successful modern franchises were born. He became the "father" of all subsequent versions of the bold and cherry La Petite Robe Noire, turning it into a vast universe of fragrances, including Black Perfecto and Eau de Parfum Nectar. And in 2017, he gave the world Mon Guerlain, a flagship fragrance that has become a favorite of millions thanks to its warm, enveloping trail of lavender and vanilla.

Signature style: botanical precision and emotional depth

Thierry Wasser's style can be described as the perfect balance between botanical precision and emotional imagery. His childhood fascination with plants has transformed into a deep understanding of natural materials. This is particularly evident in his work for the Aqua Allegoria collection, such as the sunny Coconut Fizz or the floral Flora Salvaggia. He masterfully combines bright, recognizable accords with complex, multi-layered compositions, creating fragrances that you want to "read" again and again.

A legacy that continues to grow

Today, Thierry Wasser not only upholds Guerlain's centuries-old traditions by creating the limited edition Muguet collection each year, but also constantly expands the house's perfumery horizons. His inexhaustible creativity fuels all key lines, from the boutique Les Absolus D'Orient to playful interpretations of Mon Guerlain, such as Sparkling Bouquet. He has proven that it is possible to be both a faithful guardian of heritage and a bold innovator, creating fragrances that capture the hearts of new generations of perfume connoisseurs.
