The art of perfume marketing: how fragrance is sold

Lukman Hakim — a name that makes the hearts of all fans of bright, rich, and uncompromisingly sweet fragrances beat faster. This senior perfumer is known for his bold palette and ability to turn gourmand notes into true masterpieces. His rise in the world of perfumery began not in French laboratories, but in the Eastern bazaars of Malaysia, where from childhood he absorbed the scents of spices, honey, and flowers. Today, Hakim is a key figure in creating fragrances for the brand Sugar Bomb, which is famous for its powerful, long-lasting compositions.
Lukman did not become a perfumer right away. After receiving a chemical education in Kuala Lumpur, he went to France to study the art of perfumery at the famous Givaudan school. It was there that his natural instinct for ingredients and passion for experimentation turned into a profession. Interestingly, he started his career working on fragrances for the mass market, but always dreamed of creating something bolder. His talent was noticed in the niche segment, and an invitation from Sugar Bomb became a turning point. Here, Hakim got complete freedom — and it paid off.
Lukman Hakim's style is easy to recognize: it's layered, with striking sweetness always in the foreground, but with a mandatory contrast. He loves working with honey, saffron, oud, rose, and tuberose. At the same time, his compositions are never cloying — the master skillfully adds spicy or woody accents that balance the sugar attack. The perfumer admits: 'I want my fragrance to be like a flash — bright, memorable, and a little dangerous.' That is why his works are often called 'bombs' — they explode on the skin and leave a trail for many hours.
One of the master's most acclaimed works is rightfully considered Sugar Bomb - Supremacy Rose Gold. This fragrance is a true hymn to luxury: here, delicate Bulgarian rose intertwines with a honey-saffron accord, while a base of amber and patchouli adds sensuality. Hakim managed to create a unisex composition that equally captivates both men and women. Interestingly, in this work he used a new heliotrope molecule for the first time, which enhances the longevity of floral notes. Supremacy Rose Gold instantly became a hit, garnering thousands of enthusiastic reviews and cementing the perfumer's reputation as a master of expensive, opulent fragrances.
