Maïa Lernout is a name familiar to true fragrance connoisseurs, a talented perfumer whose creations adorn the collections of the world's leading brands. Her journey is a story of passion for scents, which began in Paris and led her to the laboratories of the largest perfume companies. Today, working for Takasago, she creates perfumes that capture hearts and become bestsellers.
The desire to create beauty led Maya to the renowned ISIPCA perfume school, where she received an excellent education. She began her professional career in 2002 at Haarmann & Reimer (now Symrise), where she had the good fortune to assist the legendary Evelyne Boulanger. This experience became an invaluable learning experience that laid the foundation for her future style. Later, while working for the Japanese corporation Kao, she deepened her knowledge of cosmetic fragrances, which broadened her palette as a scent artist.
An important stage in Lernu's career was her four years working for the French company Biolandes, which specializes in natural fragrant raw materials. Here she immersed herself in the world of essential oils and absolutes, studying the subtlest nuances of natural materials. This profound experience of working with nature had a lasting impact on her approach, giving her future compositions a special depth and naturalistic expressiveness.
In 2010, Maya Lern joined Takasago, and her creativity reached the international stage. She began creating fragrances for such big names as Kenzo, Burberry, Elie Saab, and Lolita Lempicka. Her collaboration with maestro Francis Kurkdjian was particularly fruitful, and together they gave the world several iconic perfumes.
The perfumer's portfolio is a gallery of successful and beloved works. Among them shine the romantic Nina Ricci - Rose Extase, the bold and playful Lolita Lempicka - Lolitaland, as well as the refined and luxurious creations for the home Elie Saab - Le Parfum Royal and Le Parfum Essentiel. Her talent is also evident in contemporary interpretations such as the energetic Kenzo - Kenzo World Intense and in exquisite boutique offerings such as Burberry - High Tea.
Maïa Lernout's style can be described as a refined balance between natural elegance and modern dynamism. Her experience with natural materials gives her compositions a palpable freshness and quality, whether it's the lush greenery in Green Lover or the transparent floral accords. At the same time, she skillfully works with modern synthetic molecules to create fragrances that sound relevant and emotional, as in the Kenzo World collection.
Working with a wide variety of brands, from niche brands such as Molton Brown and Premiere Note to global giants such as Shiseido and Davidoff, Maya Lernu demonstrates incredible flexibility and depth of talent. Her recent projects, such as the exquisite Shiseido - Ginza, co-created with Karin Dubreuil, confirm her status as one of the most sought-after and versatile perfumers of our time, whose fragrances continue to inspire and resonate with audiences around the world.
