Scents of eras: how perfume reflects the spirit of the times
Every era has its own scent. Not literally, but in how it felt: what it wanted, what it feared, what...
Talking about modern perfumery without mentioning Michel Almeric is like discussing fashion without mentioning Paris. This master, who spent his childhood among the flower fields of Grasse, has created dozens of iconic fragrances that we know and love. His creations for Gucci, Dior, and Chloé have become milestones in the history of perfumery, and the family brand he founded, Parle Moi de Parfum, speaks to his inexhaustible creative spirit.
Born in 1953 in the heart of the perfume world, Michel Almerak was immersed in the world of fragrances from a young age. His professional journey began with training at the prestigious Roure Bertrand Dupont school, which laid a solid foundation for his future career. Working for companies such as Takasago and Drom honed his skills before his talent was recognized by the biggest fashion houses.
Almeraka's name is inextricably linked with the perfume hits that defined an era. In 1988, he and Jean-Louis Sieuzac created Dior Fahrenheit, a bold, brutal fragrance that challenged the traditions of men's perfumery. For Gucci, he created the sensationally popular Gucci Rush and Gucci Rush 2, which embodied the spirit of the energetic 90s, as well as the elegant Gucci Pour Homme 2003.
His signature style is recognizable in the delicate and absolute benchmark of femininity, Chloé Chloé, as well as in the sensual Chopard Casmir and the bold Paloma Picasso Minotaure. Working with niche brands, he gave the world the intellectual L'Artisan Parfumeur Voleur de Roses and the minimalist Le Labo Ambrette 9.
Almerac's versatility is striking: he created perfumes for luxury giants and niche brands with equal virtuosity. His portfolio includes exquisite compositions for Giorgio Armani (e.g., Cuir Amethyste), elegant fragrances for Burberry (Burberry Body), fresh accords for Acqua di Parma, and sculptural creations for Lalique. He also collaborated fruitfully with Bond No. 9, Salvador Dali, and Bottega Veneta, for which he created the eponymous flagship fragrance.
In 2016, his passion for perfumery turned into a family project. Together with his wife and sons, Michel Almera founded the Parle Moi de Parfum brand, where he was finally able to speak the language of fragrances without restrictions. Each composition here is a deeply personal story, such as Haute Provence / 89, which transports you to the landscapes of Provence.
Michel Almerac's contribution to the art of perfumery was recognized with the highest award — in 2019, he received the François Coty Prize as the best perfumer of the year. His works, from the legendary Fahrenheit to the ultra-modern Zadig & Voltaire This Is Her!, continue to top the ratings and collections of true connoisseurs, proving that true talent is timeless.
