Who is Vera Strubi?

Vera Strubi is a legendary Swiss entrepreneur and visionary in the world of perfumery, who has gone down in history as a creative director who gave the world iconic fragrances. Her journey is a story of transformation from a successful model to one of the most influential creative minds in the industry, whose keen sense of trends and bold decisions shaped the faces of great brands.

The path from the catwalk to the perfume Olympus

Born in Switzerland in 1943, Vera began her career on the catwalk. However, her ambitions extended further: she founded her own modeling agency in Basel, where she personally engaged in scouting—the search for new faces. This experience developed in her a unique understanding of aesthetics and commerce, which later led her to the cosmetics industry. She served as brand promotion director for Eylure, then immersed herself in the world of fragrances, working in the perfume department at Yves Saint Laurent and at Monteil France, overseeing the development of lines for houses such as Oscar de la Renta, Trussardi, and Montana.

A revolution in the world of fragrances: the birth of Angel for Mugler

Vera Strub's moment of glory came in 1990, when the owners of the Clarins group invited her to lead the launch of a perfume line for Mugler. Working in tandem with designer Thierry Mugler, she conceived something completely new. The result of this collaboration was the fragrance Angel, created in 1992 in collaboration with perfumers Olivier Cresp and Yves de Chiron. Its composition, where powerful patchouli was combined with an unprecedented dose of sweet ethyl maltol, was a real shock and revolution. Despite market skepticism, Angel was not only a commercial triumph—it founded a whole family of gourmet fragrances and set the trend for sweet, "delicious" perfumes for decades to come.

Second cult hit and other projects

Vera's signature style — boldness and conceptuality — was also evident in her next hit. Under her creative direction, the mysterious and hypnotic Alien was created, another icon of the Mugler house, cementing its status in the perfume Olympus. After leaving her position as creative director in 2006, Vera Stroubi did not leave the industry. In 2008, she applied her experience to launch a perfume line for the Swiss brand Victorinox Swiss Army, proving that her talent is universal.

Vera Strubi's legacy and influence

Vera Strub remains an important figure in the perfume community. She is an active member of Cosmetic Executive Women, an organization that supports and develops female leadership in the beauty industry. Her main legacy is not just a list of fragrances, but proof of how strategic vision, entrepreneurial acumen, and a willingness to take risks can change the entire perfume landscape. The best perfumes created with her participation still top the popularity ratings and remain the object of adoration and lively discussion among fans around the world.
