Identity and Release History

California Snow is a vivid example of the creative approach of A Lab on Fire, a brand that since 2011 has been known as the "burning laboratory" of fragrances.

Released in 2017, it quickly became a cult favorite in niche perfumery, offering a unique blend of floral and woody accords.

Its name reflects the unexpected harmony of cold and warm, making it ideal for those seeking unconventional experiences.

As an eau de parfum, California Snow has a rich formula that ensures long-lasting wear and gradual development on the skin.

It is positioned as unisex, meaning it suits everyone who appreciates complex and multifaceted compositions, regardless of gender.

Positioning and Wearability

This fragrance has a medium trail that leaves a soft yet noticeable trace, perfect for daily use or special occasions.

It pairs well with various styles and seasons, especially in spring and fall when its fresh and earthy notes resonate most harmoniously.

For best results, apply it to pulse points like wrists and neck, allowing body heat to help unveil all facets of the composition.

Each offers its own unique nuances, but they all share a love for natural and expressive accords.

Behind the creation of California Snow is the talented perfumer Mackenzie Reilly, whose expertise and creative approach gave the fragrance depth and originality.

Her work on this release highlights the philosophy of A Lab on Fire—bold experiments and attention to detail, making the brand one of the most innovative in the industry.

Perfume information

Description of the composition

The note pyramid in California Snow begins with a fresh and cozy start: chamomile and grass create a green meadow sensation, while sage adds aromatic depth, and sugar and tea lend a sweet and soothing note.

In the heart of the composition, warm and natural chords unfold: hay and hemp create an earthy background, which harmoniously blends with delicate narcissus and elegant rose.

The base of the fragrance is anchored by sturdy and cozy notes: cedar and vetiver provide woody longevity, while earthy notes (soil) and musk add sensuality and durability, making this scent memorable from the first to the last chord.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Of course, you can wear it out. This is just an incredible rose! It's as if it grew from the earth, where fresh grass is soaked with rain. The scent is so natural and alive

MOLD! Wow, it's a familiar smell of grass, but honestly, it doesn't disgust me. Earthy and grassy notes, as if rain has passed and dampened everything around. And then, the rose appears very quickly. A pleasant one, through all that mold. The fragrance is interesting, I even decided to wear it, but only at home, for now

I tried this fragrance thanks to Ksenia and her descriptions. Honestly, I adore the cannabis note in perfumery, but this scent turned out to be a real disappointment for me. It's somehow rough and herbaceous, with a spicy undertone, but it smells as if all the notes are just fighting with each other. The result is a complete cacophony, not harmony. The roughness mixes with something musty, and this synthetic sound just throws me off. I'm not talking about the composition, but how the notes sound together. I absolutely don't understand how to wear it. Summer doesn't suit it, neither does autumn. Maybe winter?

At first, I almost fainted - the smell reminded me of a pharmacy, and with some strange sweetness too. I thought I'd be disappointed in the brand again, but then the rose bloomed. It's so delicate, fresh, like a morning dawn. Overall, I like it! Though the price, of course, isn't pleasing

The scent reminds me of spices mixed with dry wood, with a hint of tobacco and herbs added. And mimosa, sweetish and light, is also detectable. Very natural and delicate! 🌿

The scent is earthy and musky. It's like the first snow mixed with rain and touched the frozen ground. You can feel the aroma of fresh snow and a bit of dirty earth. It's something special and unusual, but you can get used to it over time

Again, that strange, earthy, and moldy opening. Honestly, it can be off-putting, but then something amazing unfolds. It reminds me of Bvlgari's Blue Tea, which I adore. It's definitely not cannabis, but vetiver with sage and earthy notes can create a similar atmosphere. If you wait a bit, a true tea-fougère tenderness awaits you. I specifically compared it to Bvlgari, and in the middle, you can't tell the difference ))))

Oh, I'm so disappointed. The name sounds appealing, and the pyramid looks interesting. But unfortunately, I hardly smell anything they promised. I don't detect the roses that should be in the fragrance, even though it's called "evil rose." Instead, I get some dampness, like I'm in a basement, and even an exhaust fumes accord. It's like flowers and herbs were just paved over with asphalt. The scent feels industrial and dead on my skin. I've never experienced such a disconnect between what the creators promise and what I actually smell. Completely baffled. )
