Discovering Dark

In 2011, the Icelandic art project introduced Dark, an enigmatic eau de parfum in the unisex genre.

The composition was created by the talented perfumer Julien Rasquinet, known for his ability to combine the seemingly incompatible.

From the very first spray, Dark promises a journey into a world of contrasts: the freshness of citrus fruits and the warmth of woody amber facets.

The brand's story began in 2010, when an Icelandic artist decided to transform her paintings into olfactory works of art.

Each fragrance is a separate painting, and Dark is no exception. It captures the spirit of Nordic nature, its stark beauty and minimalism.

This is not just a perfume, but an artistic statement that lovers of niche fragrances will appreciate.

Character and Mood

Dark belongs to the Floral and Oriental families, with a note profile featuring Fantasy, Floral, Spicy and White Floral accords.

This makes the fragrance multifaceted: bold yet delicate, cool and enveloping at the same time.

It is the perfect choice for those who are not afraid to stand out and seek a fragrance with character.

Dark has virtually no trail—barely perceptible—so it wears intimately, within arm's reach. This effect creates an atmosphere of mystery and closeness.

The fragrance reveals itself best in spring and autumn, in the evening. It will perfectly complement a striking look for a club or party and highlight an unconventional personality.

A Symphony of Notes

The composition has no classic top-heart-base pyramid: all the notes intertwine to create a cohesive picture.

Fresh mandarin and green apple sit alongside spicy pink pepper and crisp aldehydes.

At the heart, rose and orange blossom bloom, while the base is woven from amber, Virginia cedar, metallic notes, petitgrain and lemon tree.

This combination delivers a cool, slightly tart scent that gradually becomes warm and sensual.

What to Compare It With and What to Choose

If you have fallen for Dark, consider Shiseido Rosarium, Pull & Bear Frosted Pink and Al-Rehab Amber Rose. These fragrances share a similar mood and can help expand your collection.

Dark is a bold step into the world of conceptual perfumery. Try it, and it will reveal new facets of perception.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

White, but too light and intrusive. Cleanliness on display, bubbles out of place. Won't add to collection, but liked it, though not a hundred percent 😒

"Dark" gives me pause, considering the white bottle, but the fragrance feels very light and transparent. To me, it's more of an aldehyde rose, but with modern aldehydes. I don't detect any metallic notes; it's more just a play of the same aldehydes. I also get cool white flowers. Overall, it's a beautiful and high-quality fragrance, but it's missing a bit of boldness and originality!
