Golden Sweetness: A Review of Aquolina Gold Sugar

Introducing Aquolina Gold Sugar — a fragrance that has become a true anthem to the sweet life.

Launched in 2013 by the Italian brand Aquolina, this women’s eau de toilette instantly won the hearts of gourmand fragrance lovers.

Gold Sugar is part of the iconic Sugar Aquolina collection, renowned for its delicious and provocative scents.

The fragrance belongs to the oriental and gourmand families, with fruity, sweet and, of course, gourmand notes as its main accords.

It is the perfect choice for those who are not afraid to declare their love for dessert-inspired perfumery.

A Fragrance Pyramid That Melts on the Skin

The Gold Sugar composition unfolds like an exquisite dessert. The top notes create a sunny mood with juicy mandarin, sweet orange and elegant neroli.

At the heart of the fragrance, delicate orange blossom blooms, surrounded by tropical coconut and caramel-like crème brûlée.

The base combines sensual sandalwood, musk and airy whipped cream, leaving a sweet, enveloping trail.

Character and Performance

Gold Sugar has a moderate sillage — it does not shout, yet it makes its presence known with confidence. It is ideal for everyday wear, especially during the cooler months.

For application on the skin, the “walk through a cloud” technique is recommended, while 1–2 sprays on clothing are enough to let the scent accompany you throughout the day.

The Creators and Brand DNA

The fragrance was created by renowned perfumers Shyamala Maisondieu and a Givaudan perfumer.

They succeeded in capturing Aquolina’s philosophy: boldness, sensuality and a love of sweet temptations. The brand’s official website: https://www.jacques-bogart.ru.

How to Wear It and What to Try Instead

This fragrance is a true gem for gourmand scent lovers.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

This fragrance is too cloying, sometimes even sickening. It clearly features crème brûlée, vanilla, and cream, along with a heavy coconut - all creating the feeling of a real sweet bomb. The longevity and sillage are, of course, impressive, but for me, that's more of a drawback than a plus 😕

Well, what can I say, the bottle turned out to be too small for me 😒 Although I wasn't planning on stocking up on sweet fragrances. Aquolina surprised again, but this is something else! A tenderness, like whipped cream, and there's something provocative about it. The ice cream scent adds lightness, but that's more about carefree joy. The coconut is a bit confusing, but overall, everything is quite harmonious

If you have a sweet tooth and don't have this fragrance, then you should reconsider your preferences. I simply can't imagine how one could do without it. From the first sniff, it captivated me. The citrus note that emerges reminds me of a light orange cream, and it's simply wonderful. The scent isn't intrusive, it's very gentle and delicate, as if whispering something important. Despite its sweetness, it doesn't cause aversion; on the contrary, it unfolds beautifully in warm weather. Cream and crème brûlée dominate here, and coconut sounds so quiet that it doesn't annoy, but only delights with its confectionery nuance. But alas, something is missing to make it truly memorable

Today I tried this fragrance, and in my opinion, it really reminds me of Gold Sugar, but with hints of Pink Sugar. And that's perfectly normal! The fragrance is very gentle, not harsh at all, unlike Pink Sugar. There's no pronounced caramel here, just good old powdered sugar and a little vanilla with a touch of lemon. It's so light and sweet, and for its price, it's simply gorgeous
