Identity and Release History

The fragrance Oud For Greatness by Initio Parfums Prives is a perfume water, released in 2018 and part of the Black Gold Project collection.

The name, translated as "Oud for Greatness," reflects the ambitious intent to create something outstanding in the world of niche perfumery.

The brand Initio Parfums Prives, founded by entrepreneur Nada Benemar in 2015, quickly gained a reputation for bold and high-quality compositions.

The name means "beginning" in Latin, symbolizing the start of a new phase in the art of perfumery.

Positioning and Wearability

Oud For Greatness is a unisex fragrance, suitable for both women and men who appreciate depth and character.

It belongs to the Oriental and Woody families, making it ideal for cool seasons—autumn and winter, as well as for evening outings or special occasions.

The fragrance trail is noticeable, meaning it leaves a vivid trail and attracts attention.

For optimal application, it is recommended to enter the cloud on the skin so the fragrance gently envelops, and apply 1 to 2 sprays on clothing for a longer-lasting effect.

Influence and Context

Since its release, Oud For Greatness has become a cult favorite in niche perfumery, often compared to hits such as Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 and Byredo Accord Oud.

Its success has solidified the position of Initio Parfums Prives as an innovative brand, unafraid to experiment with traditional notes like oud.

Description of the composition

Composition

The fragrance pyramid of Oud For Greatness begins with top notes: lavender imparts freshness, nutmeg adds spicy warmth, and saffron brings exotic sophistication.

At the heart of the composition, oud dominates—a noble woody note that creates depth and luxury.

The base consists of patchouli, imparting an earthy tone, and musk, which softens the composition and adds longevity.

This combination of notes from the green, spicy, woody, and musky groups creates a complex and memorable fragrance that unfolds gradually, from a spicy start to a woody heart and a musky base.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The fragrance, undoubtedly, doesn't have a clear gender association, but in my opinion, it leans more masculine. This is truly an outstanding creation of perfumery art. It envelops you with its mysticism, as if transporting you to another world. The main note is oud, and the smoke here is so skillfully balanced that it creates a sense of mystery and depth. Sweetness is also present, but in such small doses that it doesn't make it cloying, only adding a bit of charm and tenderness. How good it is!

The consultant suggested this fragrance to me so I could compare different oud scents. Honestly, I'm not really a fan of such things, but of course, I tested it. Woody, with a clear oriental touch, patchouli, and a sweetish oud in the base - this is definitely for lovers of such compositions. It's noticeable, dense, with plenty of musk, and saffron is felt right away!!! Lavender with wood adds a powdery touch. On the skin, I think it will last at least a day. A beauty that can be appreciated even if you're not a fan of oriental perfumes

First, on the blotter, there's a light lavender, and then saffron notes start to emerge. Oud, which truly sounds majestic, appears a little later, possibly thanks to the evernyl molecule - that's just my opinion. After about 8-10 minutes, the oud unfolds, enveloped by sweet musk. It feels a bit like Terroni Orto, but recently at Rive Gauche, I heard similar notes from Afnan Perfumes "Supremacy in Our". The notes there are almost identical, just with a little sweetness added. Evernyl is also present in "Velichie" (Majesty), although it's not listed, it's definitely there. The scents are very similar, but Oud ININTIO truly sounds like majesty! On my skin, the oud unfolds immediately, enveloped by sweet musk. The sillage is simply amazing! At work, I applied just a couple of sprays to my earlobes, and women sitting three to four meters away complained to my colleague that I had simply suffocated them with my scent

Baccarat Rouge 540 is clearly felt in this fragrance, but it opens much more interestingly. The drydown notes aren't that sweet, they are stricter and even a little "masculine". Overall, the perfume looks very expensive and stylish, but whether I like it or not - I can't say yet 🤔

This fragrance is truly one of the best I've ever tried. I adore oud and have tried countless variations. Here, there's no unpleasant bitterness or burnt trash smell, like in Infinity by Dusita. Instead, we have a beautifully balanced fragrance that delights. Yes, the price bites, but for now, I'm enjoying decants and planning to try an Arab analogue - Lattafa 😍

A perfume with sweet oud. The oud here is chosen very carefully, without unpleasant fecal notes or indolic nuances. The scent is captivating, enveloping, it's truly alluring. I was wary of the oud and saffron combination, as I can't stand it (I recall Baccarat Rouge with a shudder), but here all the rough edges are smoothed out, all the harshness removed. The bottle is also worth noting: it's true luxury and aesthetic pleasure

Something in this fragrance gives me an amber feeling, even though it's not in the pyramid. Spices, a bit of oud, and musk - all this creates an interesting cocktail, but it's much lighter than in Tiziana Terenzi perfumes. There's a note that vaguely reminds me of Molecule 04, but not quite. The longevity is impressive, the sillage is simply huge. It seems to jump from skin to clothes and stays there until washing )

The smell of wood and oud oil only causes me bewilderment. The fir needles seem just intrusive, and patchouli... well, I don't know what to call it. I can't say it's anything special. The scent is heavy, oppressive, leaving no room for lightness. It rather reminds me of something gloomy than something divine. I don't understand how this can be considered magic. 5+? No, rather 2 out of 5 )

This fragrance can be described as something majestic, as if it came from ancient Egypt. It possesses the power of an aphrodisiac, not just casually, but with true might. Mystical and enigmatic, it envelops you as if it were a potion created for ancient rituals. There is something intoxicating in it that makes you recall something lost forever

This scent is a real oud disaster. The smoky wood here just screams, and not in a good way. It starts with oud and saffron notes, and the base is oud and musk. After I put it on my wrist, I immediately wanted to wash it off! I can't imagine how this would smell on a woman; on a man, only Taras Bulba comes to mind. The longevity is just terrible, unfortunately. Don't even think about buying it without testing it first

What can I say? This fragrance seems to be in the "Arabian" category, but for me, it's somehow too chemical. It smells luxurious on my husband, but sometimes it's just "oh my god" I think ouds reveal themselves better in hot and dry weather. In Russia, it smells somewhat cheap, I don't know, maybe it's just me
