Laboratorio Olfattivo Pompelmo — 2023 citrus cologne

Laboratorio Olfattivo Pompelmo is a unisex fragrance in cologne concentration, released in 2023.

The composition is part of the Viaggio in Italia by Jean-Claude Ellena collection and explores one of the most recognizable themes in Italian perfumery: the freshness of citrus, transparent air and understated elegance.

Pompelmo was created by Jean-Claude Ellena, a master of restrained, precisely crafted compositions in which every note sounds distinct without overwhelming the overall picture.

His signature style is particularly well suited to this format: the cologne feels light, modern and natural, while retaining a sense of thoughtful perfumery.

For Laboratorio Olfattivo, Pompelmo continues the philosophy of independent perfumery, focusing attention on the character of the composition and the quality of its olfactory concept.

This is a fragrance for those who value not showy projection, but a clean, stylish and expressive presence.

The fragrance’s character and development

Grapefruit lies at the heart of the composition — juicy, sparkling and slightly bitter, with a distinctive freshness.

It is supported by mastic wood, patchouli, pink pepper and vetiver, keeping the fragrance from feeling flat: the citrus theme gains a resinous, spicy and woody context.

Pompelmo’s fragrance pyramid is built around the citrus family, enhanced by balsamic, spicy and woody nuances.

This combination makes the fragrance versatile for both women and men, while also giving it character: beneath the light opening impression, a drier, greenish-woody base gradually emerges.

Pompelmo has a subtle sillage, so it wears delicately without filling the entire space around you.

It is a great choice for the office, a walk, travel, warm weather and any situation when you want to enjoy your fragrance without creating an intense cloud around you.

How to apply Pompelmo

One or two sprays on the skin are enough for the composition to unfold softly while retaining the cologne’s light character.

You can apply more than four sprays to clothing, especially if you want to prolong the citrus-woody scent on the fabric.

Pompelmo will appeal to fans of fresh unisex fragrances without strict gender labeling.

It is worth considering if you are looking for an understated everyday fragrance, a light option for hot weather or an easy-to-refresh companion scent for throughout the day.

Description of the composition

Laboratorio Olfattivo Pompelmo Fragrance Notes

Pompelmo is listed as containing grapefruit, mastic tree, patchouli, pink pepper and vetiver.

The top, middle and base notes are not specified separately, so the composition is best viewed as a cohesive blend of citrus, balsamic, spicy and woody nuances.

Grapefruit creates a fresh, juicy accent, while mastic tree adds a resinous facet and pink pepper brings a subtle spicy sparkle.

Patchouli and vetiver lend the fragrance a dry, woody-earthy character and make it more expressive.

The result is a concise citrus cologne with a transparent, understated character.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Pompelmo, like its famous sibling, reproduces the smell of grapefruit very naturally. There’s coolness, a neat tang and the characteristic dry bitterness that sets it apart from other citrus fruits.

It stays even right to the end: it doesn’t turn soapy like Limone or become blackcurrant like Mandarino. Everything is well put together. 💚🧡🍊
