Fragrance information:

Identity and Release History. We present to you Vilhelm Parfumerie Black Citrus, a perfume that debuted in 2015.

This fragrance became part of the portfolio of the American niche brand Vilhelm Parfumerie, founded by Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren, whose journey from the fashion industry to perfumery is embodied in every bottle.

Black Citrus reflects a modern approach to creating universal and emotional compositions, quickly gaining attention from connoisseurs worldwide.

Released in the year the brand was founded, this perfume symbolizes the courage and innovation characteristic of Vilhelm Parfumerie.

It is not part of a specific collection but stands alone as an independent statement in the world of niche perfumery, showing how citrus notes can be reinterpreted in a darker and more complex key.

Positioning and Character. The fragrance is unisex, making it an ideal choice for men and women seeking a modern and flexible perfume.

As a perfume water, it offers a rich and long-lasting formula that unfolds on the skin with a noticeable trail, allowing you to leave a bright impression throughout the day.

Its character balances between the freshness of citrus and the depth of woody chords, creating an intriguing contrast suitable for various scenarios—from daily wear to special occasions.

Seasonally, Black Citrus particularly excels in the autumn-winter period when its warm woody notes harmonize with cool weather, but it can also refresh in spring and summer thanks to its citrus component.

This fragrance is complementary and recognizable, often described as elegant and memorable, making it a great option for those who want to stand out.

Perfumers and Creative Approach. The creation of Black Citrus involved two outstanding perfumers: Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren, the brand founder, and Jérôme Epinette, known for his mastery in creating modern niche fragrances.

Their collaboration led to the birth of a composition that combines Ahlgren's artistic vision with Epinette's technical virtuosity.

Ahlgren, with his experience in fashion, brought aesthetic depth, while Epinette ensured the balance of notes, making the fragrance both complex and accessible.

This perfumer duo helped strengthen Vilhelm Parfumerie's reputation as a brand that values quality and innovation, and Black Citrus became one of those releases that define the brand's DNA—a mix of tradition and modernity, emotion and intellect.

Application Practice and Recommendations. For optimal development of Black Citrus, it is recommended to apply it to pulse points on the skin, such as wrists and neck.

Since it is a perfume water with a noticeable trail, 2-3 sprays are enough to create a lasting effect for 6-8 hours.

On clothing, the fragrance can last even longer, but it is important to remember that some fabrics may absorb notes differently, so testing on a small area will help find the perfect balance.

The fragrance is ideal for evening outings, business meetings, or romantic dates, thanks to its versatility and depth.

It also performs excellently in cool weather when its woody and spicy chords unfold most fully.

Similar Fragrances and Context. If you enjoyed Black Citrus, be sure to explore other compositions that share its spirit.

For example, Vilhelm Parfumerie Morning Chess offers a fresher and more playful approach with a chess theme, while Carner Barcelona Fig Man combines fruity and woody notes in a Mediterranean style.

For lovers of citrus accents, Cartier Eau de Cartier Essence d'Orange presents an elegant alternative with a focus on orange.

These fragrances, like Black Citrus, belong to the aromatic and woody families, making them excellent options for those who appreciate complex and multifaceted compositions.

Description of the composition

Composition Structure

The note pyramid of Black Citrus is a masterful blend of freshness and depth that unfolds in stages on your skin.

In the top notes, bergamot and cardamom dominate, creating a bright and spicy start that instantly grabs attention.

This initial chord gradually transitions into the heart of the composition, where violet and mate add floral tenderness and green freshness, balancing between softness and energy.

In the base of the fragrance, birch and patchouli provide a lasting and warm foundation that envelops the skin with woody and earthy tones, concluding the journey with a harmonious and memorable finish.

This entire ensemble of notes belongs to the groups of citrus, floral, green, spicy, and woody notes, which highlights the multifaceted and complex nature of Black Citrus, making it a true masterpiece of perfumery art.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

What a bright and refreshing scent! Breathing it in, you feel like you're entering a winter forest, where frosty air fills your lungs. It truly energizes and invigorates. Awesome! ❄️

Honestly, the fragrance reminds me more of something masculine than feminine. The bergamot opening is invigorating, but then everything kind of gets lost. Cardamom, mate, and birch - sounds interesting, but in the end, it turns out to be something strange. It's like someone tried to create something new, but only disappointment came out

This fragrance can be described as citrusy, but with a touch of austerity and melancholy. You can feel that bergamot and birch create a special atmosphere, giving it a certain pensiveness. The name 'black' really suits it very well)))

This bergamot with cardamom is just mind-blowing, and the patchouli in the drydown is totally over the top! It smells so loud and bitter it makes your ears ring!! On male skin, of course, it might unfold quite well, but that doesn't make it any less strange. The fragrance is completely extraordinary and unlike anything else, but honestly, it's not my cup of tea

The fragrance is truly unusual, with bright citrus notes. Bergamot and cardamom create an invigorating effect, but there are also tart undertones, possibly from mate. Woody notes in the base give it character. It definitely feels 'black'. There's something alluring yet masculine about it. Worth trying, but don't expect anything light from it!!!

At first glance, the density of the fragrance isn't felt, although you wouldn't say that from the pyramid. Strange, but I didn't catch any of the declared notes, only a cannabis accent, reminiscent of Music Festival. The base is indeed similar 🤔

The scent is fresh and invigorating, but there's something strange about it. The sweetness and juiciness remind me of carrots, but I can't understand how that's possible. I even decided to compare it with Copper CdG, but it clearly lacks metallic notes. I don't know how to explain it, but something feels off
