Kinski is a perfume project by Geza Schoen, consisting of a single fragrance Kinski, launched in 2011.
The fragrance is dedicated to the German actor Klaus Kinski (October 18, 1926 - November 23, 1991), who is known for his collaboration with film director Werner Herzog in the films Fitzcarraldo (1982), Nosferatu: Phantom of the Night (1978), Aguirre, Wrath of God (1972). According to Peter Geyer, head of Kinski Productions and guardian of the actor's legacy, Kinski's name was a symbol of "leadership of extravagance and nonconformism" — thus he politely described the crazy rise that shocked even his free-thinking peers.
The fragrance dedicated to Kinski was meant to mark the twentieth anniversary of his death, but Peter Geyer did not want to simply commercialize the actor's name. Nor did he want to develop the idea of "smelling like Klaus Kinski." His goal was to create a luxurious fragrance that highlights a rare, precious, mysterious personality. Geyer turned to perfumer Geza Schoen, who was already living in Berlin, because he was renowned for his approach to perfumery through Escentric Molecules. KINSKI is an olfactory tribute to a man whose complex personality captivated and shook a generation. It is a rich, decadent, well-textured fragrance with intoxicating top notes including blackcurrant, juniper, and castoreum. Sea notes in the heart symbolize Klaus Kinski's love of the sea, while the animalic and woody base notes reflect his almost wild sensuality.
"The list of ingredients for KINSKI becomes obvious when you look at his lifestyle," says Geza Schoen. "He was excessive, abundant, debauched, so I immediately thought of something animalic and dirty, but for me there is also something fresh here that perfectly embodies the ambivalence of Kinski's personality. There is an old cliché that genius and madness are separated by a thin line. In Kinski's case, that line was the blade of a knife on which he danced his whole life."
The fragrance is released in eau de parfum concentration and is bottled in 100 ml flacons, characteristic of the Escentric Molecules brand.
