Odin is not just a brand; it's a story of how a love for design and perfumery turned a New York boutique into a cult perfume house. Founded in 2009 by Eddie Cha and Paul Biraghi, Odin takes its name from the supreme god of Norse mythology, symbolizing the pursuit of wisdom, creativity, and transformation. From the start, the brand positioned itself as niche, offering fragrances for those seeking more than mass-market offerings.
It all began in 2004 with the opening of the multi-brand boutique Odin in Manhattan. Cha and Biraghi, inspired by eclectic fashion, gathered designers such as ACNE Studios and Comme des Garçons under one roof. The success of the boutique led to a natural desire to create something of their own, a distinct perfumery signature. In 2008, with the support of marketing experts Larry Paul and Kelly Kovalik, the development of the first perfume collection began in collaboration with perfumers from the famous Drom house.
The philosophy of Odin has always been about total attention to detail. Every bottle, every package is a work of design art. Ribbed caps with rubberized coating, paper with special texture, the interplay of black and white shades – all this created a unique tactile experience, preceding the acquaintance with the fragrance itself.
The Odin collections are clearly divided into two aesthetic lines. Black Line is the foundation of the brand, a series of unisex fragrances marked by simple numbers (from 00 to 12, with the mysterious omission of number 5). These are bold, often avant-garde compositions exploring themes of travel, memory, and modern materials.
In 2014, the White Line appeared – a mini-collection dedicated to the pure beauty of flowers. Three fragrances, created by perfumer Jean-Claude Delville, were embodied in matte white bottles with exquisite paper sculpture on the packaging by artist Matt Schlian. This line showed a more lyrical, tender facet of Odin's DNA.
In its relatively short history, Odin has released several fragrances that have become icons of niche perfumery. 07 Tanoke – a woody-spicy masterpiece, awarded "Fragrance of the Year" by GQ magazine. 11 Semma received the same award from Wallpaper Magazine, captivating critics with its unexpected combination of saffron, leather, and patchouli.
Particularly beloved by connoisseurs is the mysterious 00 Auriel with the number preceding the entire line – an airy and mineral fragrance reminiscent of the coolness of a sea breeze. And 12 Lacha, the brand's last release, is remembered for its deep and sensual bouquet of tea rose and leather.
Among other bestsellers – the bright and spicy 08 Seylon, the fougère classic with a modern twist 03 Century, and the cozy, smoky 10 Roam. Each fragrance is a separate journey, skillfully created by talented "noses."
The quality and originality of Odin's compositions are the work of brilliant perfumers who collaborated with the brand. In addition to the aforementioned Jean-Claude Delville, such masters as Corinne Cachen, who created the sensual 06 Amanu, a FIFI award winner, and Pierre-Constantin Gueros, author of one of the debut fragrances – 02 Owari. The talent of Philippe Romano, Delphine Jelk, and Kevin Verspoor is also reflected in the bold and memorable formulas of the brand.
Despite the fact that after 2015 the brand did not release new products, and its flagship boutique closed in 2017, Odin left an indelible mark on the world of niche perfumery. It proved that an American brand can speak the language of high perfumery with European elegance. Its fragrances, especially from the Black Line, became objects of hunt for collectors and a benchmark for the modern unisex approach.
To search for Odin perfumes today is to embark on a quest for rare pearls, each telling a story about a time when design, art, and perfumery merged under the sign of the Norse god. This is a brand for true connoisseurs who value depth, quality, and impeccable aesthetic code.
