The Rebellious Spirit of Haute Couture

Vivienne Westwood is not just a fashion house but a whole philosophy of rebellion, embodied in clothing and perfumery. Founded in 1971 by the legendary designer Vivienne Westwood, the brand became a symbol of the punk revolution, challenging traditions and overturning notions of style. Its perfume line, officially launched in 1998, became a logical extension of this bold manifesto, offering fragrances that, like the clothing, tell stories full of irony, sensuality, and defiance.

A style icon and Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Vivienne Westwood built her empire on a mix of historical references and street underground. The collaboration with Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren and the opening of the iconic store "SEX" established the brand's DNA: provocation, anarchy, and intellectual challenge to the system. This bold philosophy is reflected today not only in haute couture collections but also in the brand's active environmental stance, which since 2013 has partnered with Greenpeace in the campaign to protect the Arctic.

Perfume Atelier: From Boudoir to Alice

Vivienne Westwood's perfumery is a kaleidoscope of characters, where each bottle holds its own bold story. The debut fragrance Boudoir, released in 1998, became a sensation. Its name is a direct reference to the famous episode in 1992 when Vivienne, receiving an order from the Queen, twirled in front of photographers, showing no underwear under her dress. It was the perfumed equivalent of a punk gesture: luxurious, floral-chypre, but with an openly sensual, almost scandalous undertone. The success of the first composition spawned an entire collection of "boudoirs," including Boudoir Sin Garden and Mon Boudoir.

Star perfumers who could capture its rebellious spirit were involved in creating scents for the brand. For example, Anglomania (2005) is the creation of the great Dominique Ropion, who embodied the idea of "English mania" in the fragrance through juicy geranium, basil, and moss. And the Alice series of fragrances, started in 2010 with the provocative Naughty Alice by Bruno Jovanovic, can be called one of the brand's most recognizable collections. It represents a gallery of modern feminine portraits—from the playful Flirty Alice to the sunny Sunny Alice.

Iconic Fragrances and Brand Hits

Over the years of the perfume line's existence, Vivienne Westwood has developed a number of true bestsellers that fans consider the brand's signature. In addition to the already mentioned boudoirs and Alice series, the woody-amber Libertine (2000)—the fragrance of a free-thinking rebel—is hugely popular. No less iconic is Let It Rock (2007), whose name refers to the designer's very first store and sounds like a hymn to freedom of expression.

The house's perfumery style is difficult to fit into one family. It is eclectic: here are sensual chypres, fresh aquatic notes, and juicy fruity chords. What unites them is a common aesthetic—intellectual provocation, playing with images, and refusing to follow trends. Vivienne Westwood fragrances are created for those who, like the founder, see fashion as art, a means of expression, and a way to change the world while remaining incredibly stylish.
