Anna Shevchuk is a name known to every connoisseur of niche fragrances in Eastern Europe. This talented woman made history as the first perfumer in modern Ukraine to create her own independent brand from scratch and without investor support. Her journey is a shining example of how passion and perseverance can turn a hobby into a life's work, inspiring thousands of followers.
Anna's biography is a fusion of technical education and creative spirit. After graduating from the National Metallurgical Academy, she devoted ten years to amateur theater, where she probably honed her sense of drama, which later manifested itself in her aromatic compositions. Her love of scents manifested itself in childhood, and her first perfumery experiments were related to aromatherapy, when she mixed frangipani absolute with orange and sandalwood essential oils.
In 2008, the indie brand Karen Doué was born, its name revealing the essence of its creator. "Karen" is Anna's creative pseudonym, and "Doué" translates from French as "talented." The debut line made a bold statement in a market dominated by global giants and marked the beginning of a new wave of Ukrainian perfume culture.
Karen Doué's style as a perfumer is recognizable by its unexpected, bold combinations of notes and impressive longevity. Anna draws inspiration from everywhere: from the work of her colleagues, from the scent of blooming linden trees outside her window, from a beautiful photograph or musical composition. Her favorite palette includes delicate accords of lilac, rose, peony, and lily of the valley, warm woody notes of sandalwood, cedar, and oud, as well as sensual trails of incense and ambergris. Among her own creations, her heart belongs to the Summer 2012 fragrance with rose, peony, and sandalwood.
Over the years, Karen Doue has released many iconic compositions that have won the love of the community. Anna Shevchuk's most popular perfumes include the delicate Rose Fantasy, the mysterious My Secret, the passionate Tango, and the exquisite A True Lady. Other hits such as Pure White, Zillya, and the magical Magic also attract attention. Each fragrance is a story that invites dialogue.
Anna Shevchuk is actively involved in the perfume community as a member of the Perfumers' Guild. Her talent was recognized in 2016 when she collaborated with other Ukrainian masters to create the Ukrainian Leather Set collection for Ukrainian Fashion Week. Presentations of her new works, such as the show at Perfume Fest in 2019, are always eagerly awaited events for fans of niche perfumery.
Today, Anna Shevchuk continues to live and work in Dnipro, remaining one of the most influential figures on the local scene. Her story proves that a true perfumer is not only educated, but also has an innate intuition, passion, and courage to follow their dream. Her fragrances are not just perfumes, but part of contemporary Ukrainian culture that is discussed, collected, and endlessly loved.
