How to change fragrances by seasons: a guide to weather and temperature

Mark Constantine is a living legend of British perfumery, a visionary and self-taught perfumer whose name is inextricably linked with the revolution in ethical and fragrant cosmetics. Born in 1952 in the suburbs of London, he showed an independent spirit early on, leaving home at the age of 17. His career began as a hairdresser, but he found his true calling in the alchemy of fragrances and natural formulas, which he mastered literally in his own kitchen.
His perfumery journey is closely intertwined with the history of brands that changed the industry. In the early 1980s, he and his like-minded colleagues became key suppliers to the young The Body Shop, laying the foundations for his understanding of ethical business. After a period of working under his own brand, Cosmetics To Go, which, despite its popularity, went bankrupt, Constantine made his big breakthrough. In 1995, the world saw the first Lush store — a project in which he was finally able to combine his passion for bold fragrances, fresh cosmetics, and social responsibility.
Mark Constantine's style is perfumery as a candid diary. Being self-taught, he is not bound by classical canons and creates fragrances inspired by deeply personal stories, emotions, and moments in life. His compositions are often built on contrasts, combining bright citrus and floral notes with smoky, earthy, or green accords. He is a master of experiential fragrances, where each note tells a story.
Among the perfumer's iconic creations, Lush - Dirty, with its invigorating minty coolness, the sensual and passionate Lush - Lust, based on jasmine, and the philosophical and complex Lush - Breath Of God have long been favorites of the community. No less beloved by fans are the melancholic Lush - Dear John, dedicated to his father, and the sunny, optimistic Lush - Sun. These perfumes don't just smell good — they evoke strong emotions and linger in the memory, which is what makes them the best in the master's collection.
In addition to his main life's work, Lush, Mark Constantine was also at the forefront of the niche line B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful, whose bold fragrances later organically merged into the main collection. His perfumery legacy continues in the family: his eldest son Simon, who grew up in the world of fragrances, is now a renowned perfumer and founder of the exquisite house of ånd fragrances.
Lush remains a family business, with Mo's wife responsible for design and their sons involved in the business. In 2011, Mark and his wife were awarded the Order of the British Empire for their outstanding contribution to the cosmetics industry and the brand's consistent ethical stance. His story is an inspiring example of how passion, perseverance, and belief in naturalness can not only build a global empire, but also forever change the world of perfumery, making it more honest, emotional, and accessible.
