Une Rose: A Masterpiece of Niche Perfumery

Released in 2003, Une Rose from Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle is a cult fragrance that redefined the perception of rose perfumes.

In the world of niche perfumery, the name Frédéric Malle resonates as a symbol of the highest quality and creative freedom, and this release perfectly embodies this philosophy.

Founded in 2000 in France by the heir to a perfumery dynasty, the house of Frédéric Malle made a quiet revolution by first bringing the creators' names to the forefront, and Une Rose is a shining example of this approach, offering not just a scent, but a whole story with every spray.

Fragrance Development: From Flower to Sensuality

Une Rose belongs to the Floral family, but its composition goes beyond a simple floral bouquet, creating a multi-faceted experience that captivates from the first breath.

The blend of notes, including rose, red wine, and patchouli, unfolds on the skin over time, starting with a bright, almost sparkling opening and transitioning into a deep, sensual base.

This fragrance leaves an unforgettable trail, perfectly balancing tenderness and power, making it a versatile choice for different moods and moments.

Positioning and How to Wear It

Une Rose is classified as a women's fragrance, but its versatility may appeal to those seeking something special that transcends gender boundaries.

With a medium trail, it is perfect for everyday wear or special occasions, not overpowering others but delicately accompanying you throughout the day.

As an eau de parfum, it offers good longevity, and for maximum development, it is recommended to apply it to pulse points such as wrists and neck, where body heat helps the notes come alive and resonate fully.

Creators and Their Inspiration

Two outstanding perfumers worked on creating Une Rose: Frédéric Malle and Édouard Fléchier.

Their collaboration led to the birth of a fragrance that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern sensuality, proving that rose can be not only classic but also bold and full of surprises.

This release strengthened the brand's reputation as an innovator in niche perfumery, showing how creative vision and freedom produce true masterpieces that inspire fans worldwide.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

If Portrait of a Lady - is a powerful rose ship, then Une Rose can be compared to an elegant frigate. The spirit of Irene Adler is felt in this fragrance. She is like an adventuress, clad in purple, with a secret blade in her cane. This perfume is as agile and swift as nature itself intended, creating it as a true work of art 🌹

In this fragrance, I feel Isabella wine, ripe black grapes, raspberry, and rose, all on a woody base with patchouli. The rose, which initially seems wine-fruity, gradually becomes lipstick-like, but not in the same way as in Lipstick Rose. Here, the lipstick is richer, burgundy, and a generous amount of powder is added to the skin. This fragrance creates an atmosphere of celebration and theatricality

A strange scent, rose combined with wine. It's so rich, spicy, even a little intoxicating. There's something mysterious about it, but I wouldn't say it's for everyone. You need to be in a certain mood to appreciate it. The price, by the way, is quite justified, but I'm not sure if I'll end up liking it

If you adore rose in perfumery, then this fragrance is definitely worth trying. I'm a rose fan myself, and for me, this scent smells very natural. Once, my mother-in-law brought me a rose water face spray from Turkey, and it was simply amazing. Well, Une Rose reminds me of that spray, but there's something more to it that prevents it from turning into just ordinary rose water. It's probably the softness of fruits or hints of wine that add depth. In short, if you want something special, definitely give this fragrance a chance! )))

The scent of a velvety wine rose, framed by clove, patchouli, and spices, is truly impressive. It's bright and beautiful, but not intrusive. If you love rose in perfumery, you should definitely try this option!

«Une Rose» is the second fragrance by Edouard Fléchier for Frederic Malle, launched in 2003. The name speaks for itself, as it's entirely dedicated to the rose. When it comes to Frederic Malle roses, Portrait of a Lady immediately comes to mind, but the true masterpiece is Une Rose. This fragrance overshadows all others, which can't even compare to its «rosiness»

Its description is simple: a fresh rose, as if covered in drops of pomegranate juice. A mature burgundy rose, exuding a sweet, honeyed scent, and Damask rose absolute with woody and tobacco notes. An essential oil that barely resembles the smell of a fresh flower. Une Rose can be described as simultaneously decadent and innocent, fresh and deep, multifaceted and holistic.

This duality encompasses everything we love in rose fragrances: berry sweetness, floral fullness, honey notes, and a refreshing soapy, metallic nuance, culminating in a woody-balsamic finish. And nothing more is needed. Who is Une Rose for? Only true rose lovers. Neither Portrait of a Lady nor Lipstick Rose can compare to it. This fragrance is difficult to wear; it's as if it wasn't made for a person and isn't eager to blend with them, but from an artistic perspective, it's a true masterpiece ))

The rose here is not ordinary at all, it's as if it's soaked in alcohol. It feels like the flower was dipped right into a glass of wine. This is something completely unique and beautiful, I've never encountered anything like it before. Now I'm seriously thinking about getting this fragrance

Bought a travel-size to try it out, to decide if it's worth getting the full-size. In the end, the scent turned out to be quite sharp and intense, but at the same time, there's a certain viscosity and sweetness. It's like a dark burgundy rose plunging into thick red wine that's been simmered down to a syrup 🌹

The rose is beautiful, of course, but not that unique. Bright, yes, but nothing special, just ordinary. Overall, I like Malle's fragrances, but the bottles - they're just nonsense, nothing interesting. And the price - that's just beyond, I don't understand why it costs so much 😒
