About Holynose Black

Black by the Russian niche house Holynose was launched in 2018 and immediately became a manifesto of contemporary art.

Created as part of the AIZEL Russian Essentials project, this unisex fragrance is an ode to the Soviet avant-garde, inspired by the works of Rodchenko and Stepanova.

The composition was created by the brand's founders, Maria Golovina and Pavel Nikandrov.

The fragrance belongs to the aldehydic and mineral families. Its sillage is very strong, and its concentration is eau de parfum.

It is a means of self-expression beyond gender: everyone will find their own story in it.

Inspiration and Concept

“Black” is not merely a name, but a philosophy. The smoky aldehydic composition evokes images: a black print on photographic paper, black brush bristles, black coal from mines, and Malevich's Black Square.

It is rebellion, reinterpretation, and pure colour. There is no classic pyramid; instead, it is a blend of materials: aldehydes, concrete, metallic notes, styrax, and tar.

It is a minimalist yet powerful olfactory sculpture.

The Holynose brand is known for its urban approach and bold combinations. “Black” is one of its most striking creations.

The fragrance was released as a limited edition of just 29 pieces, housed in a unique bottle made of blackened aluminium and concrete. It is a collector's item for those who appreciate art in perfumery.

Who It Suits and What to Pair It With

Thanks to its unisex character, this fragrance is ideal for bold, creative individuals. Its very strong sillage makes it noticeable, so it is recommended for evening outings or special occasions.

If you like this scent, explore similar compositions: Demeter Tarnish, Stradivarius N° 124 Steel, and Bullfrog Secret Potion No. 2.

They share an industrial, metallic mood.

Description of the composition

Holynose Black perfume does not have a classic note pyramid.

Instead, it is built around a combination of materials: aldehydes create a sparkling smokiness, concrete adds a cool mineral facet, metallic notes lend a cold sheen, styrax brings resinous depth, while tar completes the composition with a bittersweet smoky accent.

It is an abstract yet highly expressive accord, reminiscent of the scent of an avant-garde artist’s studio.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Very conspicuous

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

I couldn't appreciate all its nuances. The aldehydes simply suffocated me, and then it all turned into some kind of tar. I tried to cope with it, but alas, it didn't work out. The sillage is long, of course, but I wouldn't dare wear something like that 😔

In Russian perfumery, where there's a lot of monotony, Holynose stands out as a real discovery. Their fragrances can now be found in Aizel, and they truly surprise. Each one is something special, created with a clear desire to move away from standards. For example, the latest fragrance “Black” is hard to call simply an iris scent - it rather evokes a sense of something dark and mysterious, with inky notes and a slight gasoline undertone. It unfolds slowly, but in the finale, real irises appear, lively and green, with watercolor nuances and an earthy character. This isn't just a perfume, but a whole story that inspires and fills you with energy!
