Identity and Release History

The fragrance Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, released in 1993, became an icon in the world of perfumery, embodying the spirit of provocation and freedom of the brand Jean Paul Gaultier.

This women's perfume belongs to the Classique collection and has won hearts since its release thanks to its unique character and recognizable corset-shaped bottle, symbolizing femininity and rebellion.

Classique not only reflects the visionary style of the founder but also set new standards, remaining relevant for decades and inspiring generations of perfume enthusiasts.

Positioning and Wearability

As a women's fragrance in the concentration of eau de toilette, Classique offers a medium sillage that leaves an elegant and memorable trail.

For optimal effect, it is recommended 1 to 2 sprays on the skin and 1 to 2 sprays on clothing, allowing you to enjoy the fragrance throughout the day.

Thanks to its oriental-floral character, this perfume is perfectly suited for evening outings, dates, or special occasions, providing confidence, chic, and warmth, especially in cool weather.

Authors and Influence

Talented perfumers Federico Restrepo and Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud worked on the creation of this masterpiece, harmoniously blending notes that reflect the rebellious DNA of the brand.

Jean Paul Gaultier, known for his provocative approach to fashion, through Classique established himself as a significant player in the perfume industry, influencing trends and inspiring other brands.

If you liked Classique, you might also be interested in similar fragrances: Lancôme Poème, Yves Saint Laurent Cinema, and Mugler Alien Fusion, which offer similar oriental or floral accents.

Description of the composition

Composition

The note pyramid of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique begins with a bright and fresh start, where bergamot and mandarin create a citrus burst, complemented by delicate orange blossom, juicy pear, romantic rose, and spicy star anise.

In the heart of the fragrance, warm and floral notes unfold: spicy ginger adds energy, while iris and orchid lend exquisite depth, and plum, tuberose, and ylang-ylang enrich the composition with fruity and white floral nuances.

The base is built on sensual and long-lasting notes: amber and cinnamon add warmth and spice, sandalwood imparts woody softness, and vanilla and musk conclude the fragrance with a sweet and enveloping trail.

This rich mix, belonging to the floral and oriental families, creates a multifaceted composition that evolves on the skin, smoothly transitioning from a fresh opening to a deep and sensual base, making every moment of wear unique.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

The fragrance is truly long-lasting. Throughout the day, you enjoy powdery notes that remind you of something old and expensive, but by evening, something appears that smells like soap or laundry detergent. This is disappointing, because you want to keep that initial sophistication

Powdery, sweet, floral scent with a hint of vanilla, but not that simple. It's elegant, self-assured and definitely not for everyone. You can feel it's something special, not just another perfume 🌸

The scent opened up for me like old powder and lipstick. The fragrance, in my opinion, is quite intense and 'grown-up', not for young girls. Maybe this is just my perception, and for someone else, it will unfold differently :)

The scent is sweetish, with a light freshness. I can't quite pinpoint what exactly attracts me to it, but it definitely sparks desire. The bottle, by the way, emphasizes this perfectly :) It lasts a long time on the skin and leaves a noticeable sillage. A true masterpiece!

The fragrance is interesting, of course, but I can't say it impressed me. The brightness and sensuality everyone talks about rather cause fatigue than joy. This scent is clearly not for everyday life, but rather for some special occasions when you want to attract attention. But you definitely shouldn't wear it in the office, it's too intrusive. Better to save it for the evening, when you're wearing something striking and provocative 😒

Decided to test the fragrance, checked out the pyramid. Guessed ylang, vanilla, and orange blossom, but almond seemed to be just my imagination. The other notes somehow strangely intertwined, transitioning from bitterish powder to a chemical-like baby shampoo, and then from black honey to heavy retro-style white flowers. This perfume is clearly for those who love to stand out: loud, with a strong sillage, and intense. On my skin, it lasts about three hours; one spray is enough to feel it. It strongly reminds me of other fragrances from this brand, including the men's ones: sweet like a cabaret evening, and long-lasting like an all-night party, intoxicating like a Margarita cocktail. I agree there's a similarity with Poeme, but Gaultier has a sour note at the start, and then bitterness appears, which Poeme didn't have. In comparison, I think one could find even more interesting nuances. Overall, not a bad fragrance, but for me, it's too sweet to buy a full bottle, I won't be able to wear it constantly 😅

This fragrance gives me mixed feelings. It's been on my perfume shelf for a long time, but honestly, I can't say I really like it that much. Convenience and comfort? Maybe, but nothing more. It's complex, yes, but that's exactly the problem - I can't understand what's so special about it. Femininity and compliments? It all sounds nice, but in reality, the sillage it leaves is more burdensome than pleasing. Yesterday, some stranger said he was happy, but I think those are just words. I don't know, maybe I don't understand something, but this fragrance doesn't bring me joy

A fragrance everyone should have for variety, in my opinion, it's simply a must-have) It's very feminine and has a unique touch, truly reminiscent of the smell of lipstick, especially one that's been sitting in a makeup bag for a long time. Tuberose is definitely at the forefront here. It's so rich and fruity 🍏

The fragrance truly surprises with its complexity. It's rich and definitely for adults. The bottle is simply gorgeous, so feminine! Holding it in your hand is a pure delight. But I haven't quite connected with the scent itself yet. It's provocative and outrageous, just like Gaultier himself

Orange blossom and this cloying tuberose in honey are simply unbearable. The scent is so intrusive it makes my head spin. Long-lasting, yes, but that's not always a plus when it's so strong and trails like someone's chasing you. For young girls, I think this is totally not an option 😒

This fragrance is simply amazing! It's so bright and fresh, like a spring day when the sun shines extra brightly. The lightness of its scent beautifully highlights the beauty of both nature and the person wearing it. I got acquainted with it quite a while ago and wouldn't trade it for anything else. In my collection, I have almost all the limited editions, and even though they might seem similar, each has its own unique character. I think it's an excellent choice for a young woman, around 20-25 years old. You definitely have to try it! )

The fragrance just *explodes* with emotion! It's bright, rich, and sweet, with a truly grown-up femininity. You can clearly smell tuberose, rose, and ylang-ylang in it, along with powdery notes and vanilla. The longevity is just impressive, and the sillage leaves an unforgettable impression

This fragrance once belonged to my cousin's mom. The bottle definitely catches the eye, but the scent itself is too heavy and reminds me of lipstick. Its intensity, like many 90s perfumes, is simply striking. The tuberose here has an animalic nuance, and sweet fruits add their touch. It seems they didn't skimp on rose oil and ylang-ylang. The powdery accent only enhances this lipstick note. Quite extravagant, like at Gaultier's shows. It's memorable, but back then I didn't get it, and now, after 40, I wouldn't wear it )

The fragrance is just awful. No passion at all, just heaviness and oppression. I don't even want to pick apart the notes, because it's not art, it's just some kind of tasteless mess. I don't understand how anyone can wear something like this with simple jeans and a t-shirt. This scent should be for special occasions, not for everyday life. It demands respect and attention, not to be worn just anywhere. It's like with jewelry - there are certain rules, and they should be followed. Otherwise, it just looks silly ))

I'm generally not a fan of retro scents, but this Classique by Gaultier just blew me away. Everything about it is top-notch. Unspeakable admiration for the woman who wears it. This is a true classic, where yin and yang blend in one bottle. Everything here is so cozy and warm, and it sounds so beautiful in the wind, as if it envelops and mesmerizes. Simply incredible!!! Makes you want to live, dissolving into this fragrance. And it's nice that nowadays you can find such high-quality and beautiful perfumes for quite reasonable money
