Description of the composition

The scent of Douro is built as a cohesive olfactory arc, where notes flow smoothly and sequentially. The creative approach of Penhaligon's is evident in details that define the fragrance identity. Nothing here feels random, and the structure feels complete all the way through. Eau de Cologne emphasizes a balanced rhythm of unfolding.

In the first seconds you meet radiant lemon-bergamot opening notes: Basil, Geranium, Lavender and Lemon. These 4 notes set a burst of citrus freshness that gives the fragrance a clear opening statement.

In the middle phase you detect Lily of the Valley and Neroli keeping a sensual jasmine direction.

The accord architecture is built around these accords: Balsamic, Aromatic, Citrus and Floral without random overlap. Secondary accord layers such as Musc and Wood expand the olfactory volume in the background.

At the note-group layer the structure relies on Aromatic, Floral, Green and Citrus. The palette also extends to Whiteflower, Balsamic, Earthy / Mossy and Wood. At family level the composition sits in Fern.

Overall Douro sounds complete from start to finish — the start forms character, the central phase adds depth, and the final phase leaves a stable imprint. This is the type of composition best understood on skin.
