Fragrance information:

Since 2014, Bayolea Penhaligon's has never stopped surprising. A masculine fragrance from the fern and citrus families. Conceived and brought to life by perfumer Mike Parrot. Part of the Gentlemen's Fragrances collection, available as eau de toilette.

Expect a noticeable sillage — enough to be remembered, not enough to overwhelm. A couple of sprays will carry you through the whole day — longevity is firmly high. Country of origin — the United Kingdom: no wonder the fragrance turned out this refined. A rich, layered composition that reveals itself differently depending on your mood and the time of day.

Perfume information

Description of the composition

The scent of Bayolea is shaped as an expressive line of development, where accents shift with precision and warmth. The style of Penhaligon's is recognizable in details that define the fragrance identity. Every decision feels deliberate, and the structure feels complete all the way through. Eau de toilette sets a balanced rhythm of unfolding.

In the first seconds you meet radiant lemon-bergamot top notes: Lemongrass, Mandarin and Tangerine.

When the opening settles you notice Black Pepper, Cardamom, Lavender and Neroli holding a spicy-aromatic direction.

The accord architecture is driven by these accords: Aromatic, Citrus, Floral and Musc forming a compact and readable structure. Additional accords such as Wood, Amber and Spicy expand the olfactory volume in the background. The stylistic positioning is masculine, which makes the scent profile easier to read. In wear duration High points to a sustained drydown presence.

At olfactory-group level the structure relies on Citrus, Spicy, Green and Floral. The framework further includes Ambery, Earthy / Mossy, Wood and Musk.

Overall Bayolea holds a coherent structure — the opening sets direction, the middle layer carries the identity, while the drydown anchors the memory.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

The fragrance didn't impress me. Although the ingredients are really high quality, and the longevity is decent, still. It reminds me of something in between Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino and 4711 Cologne. Lemongrass? Not sure. For me, it's more like neroli without a distinctive character. There's no special development or interesting nuances. I can detect a bit of mandarin, sandalwood, moss, and lavender in the scent. If Tom Ford's Neroli is a bright, fresh, and long-lasting composition, then 4711's Neroli is just a light and pleasant splash. Bailoea, however, is somewhere in the middle. In terms of quality, longevity, and freshness. It's an average perfume. It's worth its money, but I didn't feel the urge to buy it. So far, I haven't encountered anything brighter and higher quality in the neroli theme than Tom Ford's

So much has been written about it being a «purely masculine scent» and «how a real man should smell.» But, honestly, I don't agree with that. It's somehow velvety, mysterious, and creates a special atmosphere. Yes, not every girl will dare to wear it, and it won't suit every day. There's something noble and elegant about it that's captivating. On the inhale, you feel lemongrass and mandarin peels, and in the aftertaste - warm spices and woody notes. If you have a hat and a leather vest in your wardrobe, then maybe you could be friends with Bayolea. But, damn, it's not for everyone
