Identity and Release History

The captivating and mysterious fragrance Rochas Mystere de Rochas, released in 1978, immediately won the hearts of perfume connoisseurs with its bold and elegant character.

In Russia, it is known as "Mistere de Rochas," and its name speaks for itself – it is a true mystery wrapped in an aura of French chic.

The legendary house Rochas, founded in 1925 by Marcel Rochas, has always been renowned for its impeccable taste and innovative spirit, and this perfume is a vivid confirmation of that.

Belonging to the Chypre, Oriental, and Floral families, Mystere de Rochas combines the depth of oriental chords, the tenderness of floral notes, and the structure of a chypre base.

It is an enigmatic fragrance that invites a journey through different eras and moods, remaining relevant to this day.

Positioning and Wearability

Mystere de Rochas is a women's fragrance in the concentration of eau de parfum, which ensures its richness and longevity.

Its medium trail softly envelops, leaving behind a trail of intrigue and elegance without overwhelming others.

For optimal application, it is recommended to use 1 to 2 sprays on the skin, which allows the fragrance to unfold in its fullness, maintaining a balance between intensity and refinement.

Perfect for cool evenings, romantic dates, or special occasions when you want to emphasize your mystery and confidence.

Due to its versatility, it can accompany you throughout the year, but it sounds especially harmonious in autumn and winter, when its warm and spicy notes create a cozy atmosphere.

Authors and Influence

The creation of this masterpiece was overseen by the talented perfumer Nicolas Mamounas, who managed to embody in the fragrance the spirit of the 1970s – a time of bold experiments and luxury.

His creative approach added complexity and depth to Mystere de Rochas, making it one of the iconic releases for the Rochas brand.

This fragrance not only strengthened the house's reputation as a fashion trendsetter but also influenced the development of chypre-oriental compositions in perfumery, inspiring many subsequent creators.

Today, Mystere de Rochas remains a cult fragrance that continues to gather enthusiastic reviews from fans worldwide, proving that true classics never age.

Perfume information

Description of the composition

The pyramid of Mystere de Rochas begins with a bright start: aldehydes and bergamot create a sparkling and fresh opening, while galbanum, hyacinth, and coriander add green and spicy accents.

At the heart of the composition unfolds a rich bouquet: violet, clove, ylang-ylang, iris, lily of the valley, narcissus, plum, rosemary, tuberose, and jasmine intertwine in a complex floral-spicy symphony.

The base of the fragrance delves into depth: cedar, cypress, oakmoss, patchouli, styrax, musk, and civet create a warm, earthy, and slightly animalic foundation.

Over time, the fragrance gradually reveals its facets: from the initial freshness to the floral heart, and finally to the deep and warm base, creating a multi-layered and long-lasting impression.

This journey from freshness to luxury, where each note plays its role, makes Mystere de Rochas a true work of art.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The first time I tried an oriental perfume, and it was a real disaster. Mystere de Rochas - a name that sounds mysterious, but in reality, it's just a collection of scents that can't find common ground. The bottle was matte, with a gold cap, but that didn't save the situation. They say it has almost 200 ingredients, but, honestly, it doesn't feel like it.

No other perfume from the Golden Age can surpass it, but maybe that's for the best. Mystere de Rochas is something that only causes bewilderment. A floral aldehydic chypre, released in 1976, so what? Deep, multi-component? Yes, but with a predominance of mossy notes that just press on the brain. The sillage they promise rather resembles the smell of an old wardrobe.

They say clothes hold this perfume even after washing, but it seems to me that it just soaks into the fabric and doesn't leave. The author, Nicolas Mamounas, perhaps wanted to create harmony, but in the end, it turned into some kind of chaos. Sweetness, bitterness, and moss - that's not a combination, but a real jumble. In the heat, it's simply unbearable, and in winter, it's more like torture.

As for the new version, Mystere de Rochas, after Proctor & Gamble bought it, it became even worse. Sharp, oriental, woody - that's not what I'd want to wear. The difference between the original and the new version is like comparing a sable to a rabbit. In short, I don't recommend it

The smell from the bottle is just terrible, some kind of unclear. Tomorrow, I'll probably try it on myself and on those who happen to be nearby)) It can't be that so many people are crazy about this scent, and I don't feel anything… By the way, my husband said it smells like soap. He, by the way, understands Arabian perfumery and knows all the nuances, so he didn't just say that for no reason

A classic in its own way. The fragrance is truly beautiful, but it's not the light and delicate option you might expect. Here, you feel power, true heavy artillery. Aldehydes combined with flowers create an impressive effect; such a classic can only be found in Chanel perfumery 🌸

This fragrance reminds me of the amazing Tilda Swinton - an actress who simply captivates with her beauty. If you've seen "Constantine" with Keanu Reeves, you'll definitely understand what I mean. Tilda, with her fair skin and incredible charisma, simply can't help but impress. And remember her role in "Only Lovers Left Alive" - she was stunning there too 🌟

If you have a sensitivity to animalic notes in perfumery, you might feel like a horsewoman galloping on a noble steed after a long run!!! And if not, then it's simply a magnificent floral chypre that resembles nothing else

I can't believe how this bright red bottle from 1985 still evokes such emotions! 🎉 My husband gave it to me when our daughter was born, and the scent is just incredible - it still takes my breath away with delight. This is truly an evening and festive scent that leaves an unforgettable impression!

How sad it is to realize that such fragrances are no longer produced. Time has passed, and with it, true masterpieces like "Taina" have disappeared. This scent was something incredible, it was mind-blowing. A real miracle, a beauty that could please everyone without exception - I'm absolutely sure of that. And what do we have now? Modern versions. Girls, don't waste your money. The fragrances of the 80s-90s no longer exist, except for those who carefully preserved them

What an amazing fragrance! It manages to combine tartness and sweetness, sharpness and bitterness, creating an incredible balance. I wear it with pleasure in summer and winter, at any time of day. It's simply my favorite! A true miracle! Although for me it's closer to light chypres than to orientals, I understand that everyone has their own opinion on this. But still, the fragrance is simply stunning! :)

I've had this fragrance for 16 years, and it's just been gathering dust in the closet. Today I decided to read reviews and finally took it out. How pleasant it was to inhale that scent! It reminded me of the times when my son was little and my daughter wasn't even born yet. It's just incredible, I tell you

Once upon a time, this perfume was a true masterpiece, its elegance and nobility were just off the charts. Such a deep, rich scent, almost masculine… It's like it transports you to another time! Modern perfumes, in my opinion, don't even come close to what it used to be. It's not just a smell, but a whole story that tells of its wearer. Every time I smell it, I get the feeling it came from another world, where scents don't just complement an image, but become a part of it, a true calling card…!!!
