Fragrance information:

The Scent of Departure Vienna VIE is a fragrance launched in 2011 as part of the travel-inspired philosophy of the niche house The Scent of Departure.

Created by renowned perfumer Gérald Ghislain, it belongs to the oriental family and is available as an eau de parfum.

This is a unisex composition with a very strong sillage, destined to become your companion on any journey.

Concept and Inspiration

Founded in 2011 under the wing of the French niche house Histoires de Parfums, The Scent of Departure offers a unique “perfume passport” concept.

Each fragrance is dedicated to a particular city, and Vienna VIE is no exception. It captures the atmosphere of Vienna—a city of coffee, music, and imperial elegance.

It is no surprise that coffee notes resonate at the heart of the composition, while sweet spices evoke Viennese patisseries. This fragrance is a ticket to a world of romance and new discoveries.

The brand’s official website is http://www.lostmarchus.com.

Olfactory Portrait

The fragrance opens with fresh green grass and mint, framed by citrusy bergamot and delicate floral accents.

At its heart, spicy cinnamon and clove meet watery lotus and tart rhubarb—a contrast that keeps the composition from becoming cloying.

The base is Vienna at its truest: enveloping coffee, sweet licorice, earthy patchouli, vanilla, and a woody accord create a long-lasting, warm aftertaste.

Thanks to its very strong sillage, the fragrance stays with you all day.

What to Compare It With

If you enjoy Vienna VIE, explore similarly styled oriental compositions: Salvador Dali Le Roy Soleil, Estée Lauder Cinnabar, and The Spirit of Dubai Majalis.

Each explores the oriental theme from a different angle, yet all are united by their depth and longevity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

When routine takes over, you want to add some bright moments to the grey weekdays. Re-watching classic cinema is a great way to do it. The evening passes easily, like a glass of chilled prosecco, and a fresh apricot tarte Tatin sits on the table. On screen, Holly Golightly breakfasts with a croissant and coffee, admiring the Tiffany & Co. boutique window. She's the one with Portuguese lessons and an unnamed cat; frivolous and materialistic, she bursts into our daily lives, making us believe in a happy ending. Miss Holiday loves to drink milk from a crystal goblet and sleep in a man's shirt. In her semi-empty apartment, things await travel, but Holly is limited only to New York, and dreams of Mexico and Brazil remain just memories. The Scent of Departure fragrances are also about travel, and Vienna VIE conveys the spirit of a classic film, though named after another city. Here there's invigorating coffee with foam, a delicate croissant with molasses, cold boutique windows, and the fresh scent of sun-warmed leaves. Vienna VIE shows how you can live by adding a little coffee to your everyday life ☕

The scent is really interesting, leaving behind a sweet and slightly melancholic feeling of romance. Coffee and sweet notes clearly stand out here, and the bitter dark chocolate is simply delightful. You can't say it's cloying or too sweet - its composition includes mint, which adds a slight coolness. The sweetness of praline is perfectly balanced by the characteristic coffee bitterness. This combination creates a unique impression )
